Humanoid Robots Accelerate Evolution: What Lies Ahead?From the 15th to the 16th, the second China Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Industry Conference was held in Beijing, themed “Competing in the Trillion-Yuan Track of Humanoid Embodiment: Reshaping the New Era of Industry.” Many experts, scholars, and corporate representatives discussed technological breakthroughs, scene implementation, and industry collaboration.Embodied intelligence is considered a key direction in the new wave of artificial intelligence (AI), and for the first time, it was included in the government work report this year. Chen Jianyu, assistant professor at Tsinghua University’s Institute of Interdisciplinary Information, and founder of Beijing Xingdong Jiyuan Technology Co., Ltd., stated that humanoid robots are the best carrier for embodied intelligence and the ultimate form of general robots, possessing advantages such as “low-cost adaptation, easy interaction, and easy expansion.”Wang Tianmiao, a professor at Beihang University, pointed out that AI large models have given humanoid robots greater imaginative space. On the technical side, humanoid robots are evolving from the “old three components” of reducers, motors, and controllers to the “new three components” of fully electric drive integrated joints, spatial intelligence and embodied models, and data generation and drive.In the field of embodied intelligence, high-quality training data has become the foundation for humanoid robots to successfully complete tasks. Tang Jian, CTO of the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, noted that the cost of collecting real machine data is high and the scale is small, while the cost of collecting simulation data is low and easily expandable, but its effectiveness is yet to be verified. Therefore, the combination of real and simulated data is the correct approach for embodied intelligence, where a small amount of real machine data combined with a certain proportion of simulated data significantly improves algorithm success rates.From industrial manufacturing and warehousing logistics to rescue drills and smart homes, humanoid robots are rapidly “running into” diverse application scenarios amidst the roar of technological iteration.Chen Xuedong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology’s School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, pointed out that in terms of scene complexity and motion control capabilities, humanoid robots will first enter industrial manufacturing and commercial service scenarios, where the environment is relatively controllable and standardized; next will be government and research, educational institutions, and other scenarios, replacing humans in performing tasks in dangerous and harsh environments; finally, they will enter home user scenarios. This requires humanoid robots to adapt to complex spatial environments and possess flexible control and multifunctional human-machine interaction capabilities.The “2025 Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Industry Research Report” released at the conference proposed that an important development direction for embodied intelligence is to strengthen cooperation capabilities with humans. Looking ahead, the safety interaction capabilities of embodied intelligence will gradually be enhanced, prioritizing the identification and prediction of potential safety threats, and conducting real-time monitoring and adjustments during interactions with humans to ensure safe interaction between humans and machines.According to Dai Zhendong, a professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and chairman of Nanjing Shenyuan Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., humanoid robots will enter thousands of households in the future, becoming good partners for humans.
