KLOSS (BLOCK), 2018
Cross-mirrored cube of containers,
trailers, cars, ordinary items
5m x 5m x 5m
Containers, trailers, cars, and ordinary household items are packed into a cube measuring 5 meters in length, width, and height. Michael often does this—he is passionate about collecting old items from flea markets and second-hand stores, such as televisions, radios, suitcases, and furniture, and then recombining them by color, shape, or theme to create geometric, modular installations.
Michael Johansson (Michael Johansson) was born in Sweden in 1975, and is known for his installation art and sculptures. Discarded and common objects are stripped of their original functions, allowing new interpretations to emerge. These works are often square, creating an illusion that the items he uses are fused into a completely new whole. Like real-life “Tetris,” the items are adjusted and embedded like blocks until they fit perfectly. He satirizes overly rigid elite culture with a sense of dark humor: we think we are playing a game, but in fact, we are being played by the rules of the game.
