To nurture children’s artistic perception and let creativity sprout at their fingertips, the Linxia Community Nursery Center in Weiqu Street held a themed hands-on activity titled “Creative Sand Art: Wonderful Moments”. Children unlocked new ways of artistic expression through the collision of fine sand and vibrant colors, leaving behind a joyful memory of growth.
At the start of the activity, teachers prepared plain drawing paper, eco-friendly latex, and neatly packaged colored sand. They also engaged the children with a fun interaction called “Little Brush Magic”, demonstrating how latex can “catch” the sand, which piqued the children’s curiosity as they eagerly raised their hands to try. During the explanation, the teacher slowed down to demonstrate: first dipping a small amount of latex to draw simple patterns on the paper, then sprinkling the corresponding colored sand, gently shaking the paper to remove excess sand, gradually revealing colorful outlines on the originally blank paper. The lively demonstration made the children eager to try.
During the creative phase, the activity room was filled with focused little figures. Some children held brushes, carefully drawing “curvy rivers” on the paper, then evenly sprinkling blue sand; others boldly tried to use red latex to draw “little apples”, accented with yellow sand; while others let their imagination run wild, layering various colors of sand to create a “rainbow paradise”. Throughout the process, teachers patiently helped the children adjust the amount of latex used, reminding everyone to “sprinkle sand lightly for a cleaner picture”. As each fragrant sand painting was completed, the children proudly held up their works to show off to each other, their innocent faces filled with a sense of accomplishment.
This sand art activity not only allowed children to appreciate the unique charm of sand art through touch and creation but also trained their fine motor skills and color perception abilities in practice. The Linxia Community Nursery Center in Weiqu Street always adheres to the philosophy of “Child-centered, Love-driven Learning” and will continue to launch more activities that resonate with children’s nature, allowing them to perceive beauty through exploration and gain growth through experience, making every moment of childhood shine with unique brilliance.
