“Look, the robot is waving at me!” On the 6th, the new campus of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, built in collaboration with Nanping City (referred to as the “Nanping Campus”), welcomed the class of 2025. The “Robot Senior” showcased five quadruped robots at the welcome event, making it the first university in the city to utilize robots for welcoming new students.
“This humanoid robot is a product of our industry-university-research collaboration with the Agricultural and Forestry University, and it has become a ‘internet celebrity’.” Lin Yi from Fuzhou Xuancai Cultural Media Co., Ltd. introduced that this robot participated in a humanoid robot marathon and suffered a “brutal” fall, yet it persevered to complete the race and won second place, earning it the affectionate nickname ‘Little Rascal’ from netizens. Now, ‘Little Rascal’ has taken on a new role as a volunteer for the welcome event at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University’s Nanping Campus, enthusiastically serving at the registration site.
At the registration point, ‘Little Rascal’ raised its arms, occasionally striking poses like waving and shaking hands, actively greeting the new students entering the campus. Meanwhile, the quadruped robots transformed into welcoming “pets”, some dressed in lion dance costumes to entertain, mimicking real dogs to shake hands and act cute, while others carried “baskets” on their backs to transport bottled water. They appeared in multiple roles such as “guides”, “porters”, and “volunteers”, interacting closely with new students and parents, providing services, and becoming the shining “stars” on campus.
“Little Bao, your brother is registering, go and shake hands with the robot.” Encouraged by new student parent Lin Wushun, the younger son who accompanied his brother into the university interacted with the robot, bringing laughter to the scene. Lin Wushun joked, “This is a ‘baby-sitting’ gadget!”
