The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has stated that a man from Prince Edward Island is facing the first-ever terrorism charges in Eastern Canada related to a case involving 3D printed firearms.

These charges stem from an investigation conducted by federal police earlier this year on the island. According to a press release from the RCMP in August, police received information on February 24 that a man was allegedly threatening individuals and organizations online.
In February, police arrested Daniel Desmond Claude and reportedly seized firearm components from his residence.
Claude was charged with multiple firearm offenses in the summer, and the RCMP issued a terrorism peace bond against the 50-year-old man.
Currently, police state that this man from North Rustico is facing two separate terrorism charges for allegedly manufacturing 3D printed firearms:
1. Deliberately assisting terrorist activities through the possession of weapons, manufacturing firearms and firearm components.
2. Possessing weapons, 3D printing equipment, tire puncturing devices, instructional materials for manufacturing AR-15s, and manufactured firearms and firearm components, intending to directly or indirectly, wholly or partially assist or carry out terrorist activities.
Police indicate that Claude is currently in custody, and there is no evidence suggesting a broader network or an active threat to the public.
A press release from the RCMP on Wednesday stated: “This case should not be seen as reflective of a broader trend in our community. Prince Edward Island remains one of the safest places in Canada, and this case demonstrates that police are prepared to respond to the most serious threats.”
Since August 18, Claude has been under a terrorism peace bond, placing him under strict conditions.
The RCMP stated: “This is one of the measures taken by the RCMP to ensure community safety throughout the ongoing investigation.”
