SAMA5D2 Layout Considerations
The SAMA5D2 series is based on the Arm® Cortex®-A5 processor, which integrates various peripherals and communication interfaces on a single chip, thereby increasing the complexity of printed circuit boards (PCBs).
How to place components and route critical traces to maintain signal integrity poses a challenge for hardware designers.
This application note briefly introduces the most critical issues to consider when designing systems based on the SAMA5D2. For beginners, if you have not mastered the relevant skills, we recommend seeking support from professional PCB design services while using these guidelines.

Main Content
SAMA5D2 Peripherals
The SAMA5D2 is a high-performance, energy-efficient embedded MPU based on the Arm Cortex-A5 processor.
The SAMA5D2 features an internal multi-layer bus architecture associated with 32 DMA channels, supporting the high bandwidth required by the processor and high-speed peripherals. This device supports DDR2/DDR3 (DLL off only), LPDDR/LPDDR2/LPDDR3/DDR3L (DLL off only), and x8 SLC/MLC NAND flash (up to 32-bit ECC).
The complete set of peripherals includes an LCD TFT controller with an overlay for hardware-accelerated image composition (RGB), and an image sensor controller (RGB). Connected peripherals include 10/100 EMAC, USB, CAN-FD, UART, FLEXCOM, SPI, two QSPI, DIO/SD/eMMC, and I2C.
