Using Atmel-ICE for AVR® Microcontroller Production Programming
For production programming, it is recommended to use dedicated production programmers; these programmers are designed to operate in a production environment and come with software specifically for production. The application note “AT06015: Production Programming of Microchip AVR® and SAM Microcontrollers” lists third-party production programming tools for Microchip AVR and SAM microcontrollers.
Atmel-ICE is a powerful development tool used for debugging and programming AVR microcontrollers and SAM microcontrollers based on Arm® Cortex®-M. Although Atmel-ICE is not designed for production programming, some users still choose to use it for small-scale production programming due to its lower price and familiarity from the product development stage. To help users accelerate the development of production programming tools, this application note provides detailed information on Atmel-ICE setup, driver installation, a user guide for the Atmel-Studio command line utility (atprogram.exe), and a PC programming tool project written in C#. A Visual C# sample project can be downloaded alongside this application note and run on the ATmega328PB Xplained Mini toolkit.
