Multiple Interfaces

Multi-Functional Interface MCU | Microchip Ultra-Low Power SAM D5/E5 Series

These new MCUs come with multiple interfaces, enhancing design flexibility and meeting the demands of even the most stringent connections. This series includes a quad serial peripheral interface (QSPI) with execute-in-place (XIP) capabilities. This allows the system to use high-performance serial flash memory, which is not only smaller but also cheaper compared to traditional pin-parallel flash, fulfilling external memory needs. The SAM D5/E5 devices also feature a secure digital host controller (SDHC) for data logging, a peripheral touch controller (PTC) for implementing capacitive touch functionality, and first-class operating power performance (65 uA/MHz), making it suitable for energy-efficient applications. Furthermore, the SAM E5 series includes two CAN-FD ports and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet media access controller (MAC) supporting IEEE 1588, making it ideal for industrial automation, home networking, and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Secure and Reliable

Multi-Functional Interface MCU | Microchip Ultra-Low Power SAM D5/E5 Series

The SAM D5 and E5 series both provide comprehensive hardware and software support for encryption, enabling developers to integrate security measures from the start of the design. Hardware-based security features include support for elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and RSA schemes via a public key cryptography controller (PUKCC), as well as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption and Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA). The SAM D5/E5 microcontrollers, with their powerful performance, rich interfaces, and built-in security features, can effectively meet the design requirements of various applications.

Atmel Studio 7

Atmel Studio 7 is available for free and integrates the Atmel Software Framework (ASF). ASF is a large free source code library containing 1600 project examples. ASF enriches the functionality of Atmel Studio — allowing developers to access ready-to-use code in the same environment, minimizing some of the preliminary design work for projects. The standard IDE is suitable for creating new software for MCU projects. Additionally, Atmel Studio 7 IDE has the following advantages:

• Facilitates reuse of existing software for differentiated designs.

• Integrated tools and software extensions can be easily accessed through Atmel Gallery, supporting the product development process.

• Advanced features, an extensible software ecosystem, and robust debugging integration can shorten time-to-market.

Atmel START

Atmel START is a web-based software configuration tool launched by Atmel, helping developers reduce the time spent on integrating software components for specific circuit boards and devices, thus accelerating product time-to-market.
