Further enrichTXZ+™series high-end seriesM4Kgroup, expanding the code flash memory to512 KB/1 MB
March262024——Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Devices Corporation (“Toshiba”) today announced the addition of 8 new products to the TXZ+™ family of high-end 32-bit microcontrollers with Cortex®-M4 core and FPU in theM4K group, with flash memory capacities up to 512 KB/1 MB, while providing 4 different package types.
Support for IoT motor application functions continues to evolve, requiring larger programming capacity and better firmware OTA support.
Toshiba’s newly launched M4K group products expand the maximum code flash memory capacity from 256 KB to 512 KB[1]/1 MB[2] (specific capacity varies by product), and the RAM capacity is also increased from 24 KB to 64 KB. While increasing capacity, other features are retained, including an Arm® Cortex®-M4 core with a maximum operating frequency of 160 MHz, integrated code flash memory, and 32 KB data flash supporting 100,000 programming/erase cycles.
In addition, these microcontrollers offer a variety of different interfaces and motor control options, including Advanced Programmable Motor Driver (A-PMD), Advanced 32-bit Encoder (A-ENC32), Advanced Vector Engine+ (A-VE+), and three high-speed, high-resolution 12-bit ADC units. Therefore, the M4K group products help expand IoT applications and bring advanced features for AC motors, brushless DC motors, and inverter control.
The new products implement 1 MB code flash memory in two independent 512 KB areas. This enables firmware switching through memory swapping[3], supporting instruction reading from one area while programming updated code in parallel to another area.
The M4K group devices integrate UART, TSPI, and I2C as general communication interfaces. The self-diagnosis functions integrated into flash memory, RAM, ADC, and clock devices help customers achieve IEC 60730 Class B functional safety certification.
At the same time, we also provide documentation, example software with practical usage examples, and driver software to control each peripheral interface. We collaborate with Arm® global ecosystem partners to launch evaluation boards and development environments.
Toshiba also plans to increase the flash memory capacity of future M4M group products supporting CAN interfaces.
