Display is the ultimate interaction method of any technology to showcase to humanity.
Therefore, without technology, there is no display.
A chip and a screen form the hardware core of the modern technology industry chain!
The entire market is ignited by displays, regardless of the type of display companies, from glass, panels, display modules, to various display technology routes, the explosive situation of LCD/OLED/Mini/MicroLED has left many people confused.
Let’s briefly discuss why this situation is occurring this year.
Firstly, LCD panel prices are continuously rising.
Many people know that Samsung has postponed the shutdown of its LCD panel factories due to the booming LCD panel business.
Why is this?
Two reasons:
1. The pandemic has led to a significant increase in demand for LCD displays.
From consumption to home office, gaming, and various application scenarios have greatly increased, which is the fundamental reason for the supply-demand imbalance in LCDs.
2. The evolution of MiniLED backlighting has extended the lifespan of LCD panels.
Major manufacturers, especially TCL, have continuously released multiple MiniLED backlit TVs, allowing LCDs to combine display quality and cost-effectiveness.
The pandemic will not end immediately before vaccines are fully disseminated, and the lifestyle changes caused by the pandemic have also quietly permeated and are irreversible.
The increase in display consumption has become irreversible, and with the support of MiniLED backlight technology, the oligopoly of the LCD industry chain continues, and is no longer just a sunset glow!
Moreover, this year’s continuous rise in LCD panel prices has not shown signs of cooling down even into the fourth quarter, and the profit structure of the LCD industry chain has been reshaped.
Why is OLED also booming?
Many people believe that MiniLED backlighting has extended the life of LCDs, which has somewhat hindered the expansion of OLED in the television field.
But why is OLED also very popular this year?
The answer is actually very simple: wearables.
OLED costs are quite high and have not been able to decrease, resulting in a slow breakthrough in the large screen field.
However, in the small screen field, OLED is rapidly expanding with its irreplaceable display quality.
Although the already small share of the large screen field has slowed down, the continuous innovation in wearable devices has brought significant performance increases for OLED displays.
According to IDC’s “China Wearable Device Market Quarterly Tracking Report, Q3 2020”, the shipment volume of wearable devices in China in Q3 2020 reached 32.93 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%.
The shipment volume of basic wearable devices (wearable devices that do not support third-party applications) reached 26.16 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%, while smart wearable devices shipped 6.77 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.
In Q3 2020, the shipment volume of adult smartwatches reached 4.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 76.8%, setting a new high in growth rate in nearly a year.

Among them, the basic smartwatch market, led by Huawei, has seen many manufacturers actively follow suit, jointly promoting the market shipment growth rate to reach 138.8%;
The smart watch market has recovered growth driven by new products from Apple Watch, achieving a year-on-year growth rate of 25.5%.
Meanwhile, rumors have it that Apple will retain OLED versions for next year’s Mac Pro and iPad Pro, which endorses the value of OLED.
Thus, the popularity of OLED displays is understandable.
MiniLED, the next generation of TVs!
The popularity of MiniLED is predictable, as it represents the ongoing next-generation television technology route.
The ultimate route has been determined, as Shengyan has mentioned in several previous articles, is MicroLED.
However, MicroLED is expected to have a low proportion of entry into the consumer electronics market this year or next, mainly focusing on commercial display products.

The Rise of Display Technologies: LCD, OLED, Mini/MicroLED

Recently, Xiaomi released the “Master” MiniLED backlit TV, and manufacturers such as TCL, Konka, Changhong, Skyworth, Hisense, LG, and Longda have all followed suit.
Qunzhi Consulting predicts that by 2023, the scale of PM Mini LED backlit TV products will reach 3.6 million units, and by 2025, it will grow to over 9 million units; the shipment of AM Mini LED backlit TVs will reach 7.6 million units by 2025.
MiniLED has already been heavily promoted, and with rumors that Sanan Optoelectronics’ MiniLED cheap chips will go into mass production next spring, the industry is poised to ignite the market.
MicroLED
This popularity is closely related to rumors about Apple.

The Rise of Display Technologies: LCD, OLED, Mini/MicroLED

Recently, several heavyweight institutions have mentioned this rumor.
1. According to a research report from Zhongjin, Apple may release a Pad or Mac with Mini backlighting made of Micro chips in the first half of next year.
2. Tianfeng International’s recent research report mentioned that Jingdian occupies 90% of the Micro chip market within the last year, and the expected shipment volume of Apple products has been significantly revised upwards.
With such heavy news, how can the market not be booming?
In such a hot market rhythm, how can electronic components such as glass panels, touch controls, power supplies, and display modules not be thriving?
The 8-inch wafer production line has long been overwhelmed and is beginning to spread throughout the entire industry chain.
