Beijing, China – Global semiconductor solution provider Renesas Electronics today announced the launch of a new product aimed at the large-scale visual AI market – the RZ/V2N, further expanding the product lineup of the RZ/V series microprocessors (MPUs). Similar to its high-end product RZ/V2H, the new product is equipped with Renesas’ proprietary AI accelerator DRP (Dynamically Reconfigurable Processor) – AI3. Thanks to advanced pruning technology, it achieves energy efficiency of 10 TOPS/W (trillions of operations per watt) and AI inference performance of up to 15 TOPS. With the latest addition of the RZ/V2N, the RZ/V series now covers the entire market range from the low-end RZ/V2L (0.5 TOPS) to the high-end RZ/V2H (up to 80 TOPS).
The new RZ/V2N MPU is significantly smaller than the RZ/V2H, with a package area of only 15mm²; the installation area is reduced by 38%. The RZ/V2N inherits the advanced features of the RZ/V series, combining high-performance AI with low power consumption. These optimized features reduce heat generation, eliminating the need for additional cooling fans, thereby reducing the size and cost of embedded systems. Developers can easily implement visual AI in a wide range of applications, from AI cameras for traffic and congestion analysis in commercial facilities, to industrial cameras for visual inspection on production lines, and driver monitoring systems for behavior analysis.

Dual Camera Dual Angle Image Processing
Like the RZ/V2H, the new RZ/V2N is equipped with four best-in-class Arm® Cortex®-A55 CPU cores and one Cortex-M33 core, combined with a high-quality image signal processor (ISP) Arm Mali-C55. The RZ/V2N also features a dual-channel MIPI camera interface, allowing connection to two cameras to capture dual-angle images. Compared to single-camera systems, dual-camera systems significantly enhance spatial recognition performance and enable more accurate human motion trajectory analysis and fall detection. Additionally, dual-camera systems can capture images from different positions, allowing efficient counting of vehicles in parking lots and license plate recognition using a single chip.
Daryl Khoo, VP of Embedded Processing at Renesas, stated: “Since Renesas launched the RZ/V2H last year to meet the market demand for next-generation robotic technology with visual AI and real-time control capabilities, interest in Renesas’ DRP-AI accelerator has continued to rise. The RZ/V2N shares the same lineage as the RZ/V2H, and with the launch of the RZ/V2N, we are expanding our business scope to mid-range applications, especially for end-visual AI that does not require high-power designs. We are honored that customers can select the AI MPU product that best fits their system needs and budget from Renesas’ rich product line.”
Paul Williamson, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IoT Line of Business at Arm, commented: “Visual AI applications are widespread and diverse, covering smart cities, enterprises, and industrial sectors. They all require consistent performance and efficient processing capabilities. The newly launched RZ/V2N MPU from Renesas, leveraging the exceptional capabilities of the Arm computing platform, can fully meet the stringent performance and efficiency requirements of next-generation visual AI application scenarios, providing strong support for related fields.”
Comprehensive Development Environment
The RZ/V2N will be equipped with Renesas evaluation board kits and software development environments, providing a variety of AI applications covering over 50 use cases; these applications can be accessed in the AI application library and AI SDK (GitHub). This SDK helps users without deep AI background knowledge to quickly evaluate and develop AI applications, shortening time to market. Additionally, partner companies will provide SOM (System on Module) boards, SBC (Single Board Computer), camera modules, and other products integrated with Renesas RZ/V2N. This reduces hardware design work, allowing developers to focus on AI application development and quickly bring products to market.
Successful Product Portfolio of AI Camera Solutions
Renesas has developed AI camera solutions for various applications such as factories, public facilities, and commercial facilities, consisting of the RZ/V2N, power management ICs, and real-time clock ICs, which can serve as reference designs for AI camera systems. Renesas’ “successful product portfolio” relies on mutually compatible and seamlessly collaborating devices, while adopting a proven system architecture that brings optimized low-risk designs and accelerates time to market. Based on the various products in its lineup, Renesas has launched over 400 “successful product portfolios” aimed at helping users drive the design process and speed up time to market.
