May 19, 2025, Beijing, China – Global semiconductor solution provider Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723) today announced the launch of a new high-performance microprocessor (MPU) – RZ/A3M, based on the RTOS-based RZ/A series, to meet the growing demand for advanced human-machine interface (HMI) systems. The new RZ/A3M MPU is equipped with large-capacity SDRAM, SRAM, and support for RTOS, facilitating seamless execution of complex tasks and real-time graphics display. The RZ/A3M can drive video and camera output on large LCD panels with resolutions up to 1280×800, fully meeting the display requirements of next-generation home appliances, industrial and office automation equipment, healthcare devices, and building control systems.
Similar to the existing RZ/A3UL, the RZ/A3M features a 64-bit Arm® Cortex®-A55 core with a maximum operating frequency of 1GHz and an on-chip SRAM capacity of 128KB. By integrating high-speed 128MB DDR3L-SDRAM in a single system-in-package (SiP), this product eliminates the complex task of designing high-speed signal interfaces to connect external memory.

Reducing system costs with built-in memory and simplified PCB design
The design of the RZ/A3M aims to reduce system costs and accelerate the development process. It supports external NAND and NOR flash memory via QSPI for data and code storage. Large-capacity NAND flash, used in conjunction with drivers, provides a cost-effective option for memory expansion. Additionally, the RZ/A3M’s BGA package features a unique pin layout, with two main rows located at the outer edge, simplifying PCB routing and enabling low-cost, double-sided printed circuit board designs, significantly saving costs and time. The built-in memory reduces wiring complexity and minimizes layout constraints, thereby simplifying PCB design.

Comprehensive Development Environment
Renesas offers a comprehensive HMI development environment, including a Flexible Software Package (FSP), evaluation kits, development tools, and sample software. GUI solutions from partner companies such as LVGL, Crank, SquareLine Studio, and Envox will be compatible with the RZ/A3M, promoting rapid HMI graphics development.
