Exploration Team Visits Beihang University to Build Dreams with AI

When the “Artificial Intelligence” from textbooks comes to life, and “Principles of Robotics” transforms into tangible objects that can be built by hand, a technology enlightenment journey for the first-year Exploration Team begins at the Beihang University Shahe Campus! On September 20, 2025, some members of our first-year AI Exploration Team entered the Beihang University Engineering Practice and Innovation Center’s science popularization base, themed “Exploring Artificial Intelligence,” to immerse themselves in the creation and debugging of intelligent robots, unlocking the charm of technology and igniting innovative dreams.

At the beginning of the event, students entered the Robot Innovation Laboratory. In the science report “Entering the World of Intelligent Mobile Robots,” they traced the development of robots with the teacher’s explanation—from early mechanical arms to today’s intelligent mobile robots, from industrial production to applications in daily life. Vivid examples made concepts like “robot classification” and “components of mobile robots” lively and understandable.

The most anticipated “Robot Assembly” session officially began. From the precise alignment of drive wheels and motors to the balanced installation of omni-wheels, and then to the fixing of controllers and sensors, students worked in pairs, following the instructions to collaborate. As the scattered parts came together to form the prototype of the robot, the scene was filled with excited cheers.

After a brief break for lunch and rest, the event transitioned to the “Technical Advancement Mode.” The teacher first introduced the core functions of the Arduino controller, then guided students to install IDE software on their computers, starting with the syntax of basic programming languages, gradually mastering the control logic of the robot’s “brain.” The “programming and debugging” session began—writing code, connecting devices, uploading programs, and repeatedly adjusting parameters based on the robot’s actual performance. When students saw their programmed robot successfully move straight, turn, and even accurately trace triangular and square paths, their faces were filled with a sense of accomplishment.

This Beihang University AI research activity not only allowed first-year students to step out of the confines of the classroom and closely engage with the research resources of a top university, but also transformed abstract technological knowledge into tangible practical operations through a full process experience of “visiting + learning + hands-on + programming.” On one hand, students enhanced their hands-on skills, logical thinking, and teamwork awareness through assembly and programming; on the other hand, the deep interaction with intelligent robots allowed them to experience the charm of cutting-edge technology in advance, planting the seeds of “exploring the unknown and loving science” in their hearts, laying the groundwork for their future involvement in the field of innovation.
