As autumn deepens, the enthusiasm for open source in university campuses continues to rise. Today, two university events in the open source field have concluded — the 22nd Software Freedom Day (Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications) and the first “Hefei RISC-V Open Day” (Hefei University of Technology).
The deepin community has been deeply involved, from promoting open source concepts to sharing technical solutions, from tool innovation to ecological co-construction, bringing cutting-edge technology full of practical content to university teachers and students, and continuously transmitting the spirit of open source among the youth.

Software Freedom Day at Xi’an University:
Ruyi Linglong: Breaking the Linux Distribution Compatibility Challenge
In September, the Chang’an campus of Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications became a gathering place for open source enthusiasts — the 22nd Software Freedom Day (Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications) kicked off with great excitement. As a global public open source event, the core of SFD is to help more people understand the value of “free software,” and the deepin community, as a steadfast “technical practitioner,” transforms abstract open source concepts into tangible tools and solutions.

During the event, Ziggy from the deepin community delivered a keynote speech titled “Next-Generation Linux Ecological Solution — Cross-Distribution Independent Package Management Toolset ‘Ruyi Linglong'”. He pointed out that in the traditional Linux ecosystem, “the same software is difficult to deploy uniformly across different distributions” is a common pain point for developers and users, while “Ruyi Linglong” directly breaks this compatibility barrier through its design of cross-distribution independent package management — regardless of whether you are using Ubuntu, CentOS, or deepin, as long as the package maintainer builds it through Ruyi Linglong, they can easily obtain and run the required software using this toolset, significantly lowering the maintenance and usage threshold of the Linux ecosystem.
In addition, it also demonstrated how to package wireless network card drivers into one-click installation packages through the export mode of Ruyi Linglong’s Custom Loader.
Ziggy also shared deepin’s open source practices: currently, deepin has established over 50 Special Interest Groups (SIGs) covering key areas such as Qt, Kernel, AI, and Security. By 2025, the community has attracted 2068 contributors, generating a total of 807 personal commits, 418 personal PRs, and 191 personal issues. Behind these numbers is the implementation of deepin’s “open collaboration” philosophy, which also allows the students present to see the vitality and growth potential of the open source community.

“I realized that open source is not a battle fought by one person, but a co-creation of many!” A student expressed this sentiment on-site. Dean Sun Jiazhe of the Computer College also encouraged everyone in his speech: “Actively participate in open source projects, solidify your foundation and broaden your horizons through practice.”

Hefei University RISC-V Open Day:
deepin Shines, Building a Hardcore Open Source Ecosystem
At the same time, the deepin community also stepped into Hefei University of Technology, deeply colliding with the pioneering architecture of open hardware, RISC-V. This open day event focused on the currently popular RISC-V architecture, with experts explaining the open-source characteristics and immense potential of the RISC-V instruction set in an accessible manner.

The deepin community also prominently showcased its latest achievements in the construction of the RISC-V ecosystem at the exhibition area, as well as its efforts and accomplishments in promoting open source culture and ecological development.
Since February 2022, deepin has established a corresponding SIG to promote the adaptation of the RISC-V architecture. So far, the deepin operating system has successfully adapted to almost all publicly available desktop-level RISC-V devices and provides critical hardware acceleration support for GPU, NPU, and VPU.Deepin 23 stable version and Deepin 25 preview version have both provided official images for the RISC-V platform and continue to be updated.
In terms of software, deepin has also completed the adaptation of the RISC-V open source software ecosystem, providing over 27,000 software packages and offering kernel, GPU, VPU, and NPU driver solutions for RISC-V development boards, ensuring that these critical components can be maintained well over the long term.

Although the two events have concluded, the open source collaboration between deepin and universities continues to deepen. From the “concept sowing” of Software Freedom Day to the “ecological exploration” of RISC-V Open Day, we firmly believe:The future of open source lies in the youth, and the growth of youth requires an open and collaborative environment.Whether you are a university teacher or student eager to engage with cutting-edge open source technology, or a developer hoping to join a collaborative innovation community, consider following the deepin community to get the latest technical updates and participation opportunities — let us together, with open source as our pen, draw a new picture of technological innovation!
