American Experts Are Upset: Chips Were Invented by Us, How Can China Be Better?

To be honest, the logic of this expert is quite baffling. According to his reasoning, just because a certain technology was invented by you, does that mean others can never surpass you? Gunpowder was invented in China, does that mean other countries cannot make bombs? The compass was invented in China, does that mean other countries cannot navigate? Isn’t that just nonsense?

Back in the day, the U.S. was quite ruthless towards China’s chip industry. In 2018, the U.S. Department of Commerce directly placed ZTE on the Entity List, citing violations of U.S. sanctions. At that time, ZTE was on the brink of collapse because it relied entirely on American suppliers for critical chips. Once they cut off supplies, the entire company was paralyzed.

Even worse was the Huawei incident. In 2019, the U.S. blacklisted Huawei, not only prohibiting American companies from cooperating with Huawei but also pressuring other countries to take sides. At that time, those American politicians were quite pleased, thinking they had seized the lifeline of China’s technological development. TSMC dared not manufacture for Huawei, Qualcomm dared not sell chips, and even Google stopped cooperating with Huawei.

You Don’t Understand the Temperament of the Chinese

But what is the temperament of the Chinese? The more you strangle me, the more I want to fight back! After Huawei was sanctioned, Ren Zhengfei boldly stated: “We have no way to go but victory!” Since then, the Chinese chip industry has been like a shot of adrenaline, starting a frenzy of independent research and development.

And what was the result? In just a few years, the Chinese chip industry underwent a major turnaround. Huawei’s Kirin 9000S chip emerged, and the 7nm process left Americans dumbfounded. SMIC’s manufacturing process is also rapidly catching up, moving from 28nm to 14nm and then to 7nm, each step hitting the Americans where it hurts.

Now It’s the Americans Who Are Panicking

What is it that Americans cannot stand the most? Not only has the technology caught up, but the costs are also lower than theirs! Chinese chip companies are leveraging the advantages of a complete industrial chain, and large-scale production has driven costs down sharply. For chips with the same performance, China can achieve half the price of the U.S. Can you imagine how anxious the Americans must be?

Even more critically, China is also taking the lead in emerging fields. In areas like AI chips, IoT chips, and automotive chips, Chinese companies are no longer followers but leaders! Chips like Cambricon’s AI chip and Horizon’s autonomous driving chip are shining brightly in the international market.

Invention Rights Do Not Equal Monopoly Rights

Returning to the bizarre remarks of that American expert, I want to ask him: Just because you invented a certain technology, does that mean you can monopolize the industry forever? Technology progresses, and latercomers can surpass their predecessors through innovation and effort. Isn’t that a normal occurrence?

Moreover, many of China’s breakthroughs in the chip field are original innovations! For example, integrated storage and computing chips, photonic chips, quantum chips, and other cutting-edge technologies are leading the world. These are not simple imitations but true technological breakthroughs.

Today, you may ignore us, but tomorrow, we will make you unable to reach us! This is the answer that the Chinese chip industry gives to the world. From being strangled to overtaking and leading, we have achieved this in less than five years. This speed and efficiency are something the Americans cannot deny.

Now, those American experts who once mocked Chinese chip technology should reflect on their views. Technology knows no borders, and innovation has no monopoly rights. The Chinese have stood up in the chip field through their intelligence and hard work, and this is what we deserve!
