On the afternoon of April 16, 2025, a demonstration lesson for English core teachers of the middle-grade group was held in the comprehensive classroom on the third floor of the South Campus. In this event, teachers Hao Aimei and Mi Rui utilized AI robots to digitally empower English teaching, providing students with a vibrant and innovative English learning experience, breaking traditional teaching boundaries and exploring diverse teaching models in an AI digital environment.
On a morning in early April, “Robot Xiao Na” arrived at the South Campus, immediately attracting the attention of teachers and students. “Xiao Na” sang and danced, and students and teachers joined in the dance. What wonderful experiences will she bring?Let’s set off together!
In the previous two weeks, the team led by Professor Fang Haiguang from Capital Normal University developed the intelligent educational robot Xiao Na, collaborating with the information team of Cuiwei Primary School and the fourth-grade teacher team to refine the teaching design, updating and improving the design and construction of the course intelligent agent. English teachers actively responded, continuously practicing and improving to make the intelligent agent more aligned with the teaching content and closer to the students’ real lives.
To ensure a smooth collaboration between the “dual teachers,” the teaching segments transitioned seamlessly, deepening language use through situational dialogues and enhancing the complementary teaching of “human teachers + AI robots.” Teachers conducted multiple trial lessons and improvements. Problems were identified during each trial lesson, and improvements were made in each lesson refinement.

Teacher Hao Aimei
“Beautiful Interests in China”
On Wednesday afternoon, April 16, 2024, Teacher Hao Aimei’s class on “Beautiful Interests in China” was spectacular. The robot Xiao Na combined on-site generated interactions and other AI intelligent agent models to help students intuitively experience the charm of Chinese cities. As a tour guide, “Robot Xiao Na” integrated into the English classroom, showcasing scenic images from around the world, creating an immersive language learning environment for students. Students not only learned English knowledge related to cities but also enhanced their love for the scenic spots of their motherland.

Teacher Mi Rui
“Let’s Make a Travel Plan”
In Teacher Mi Rui’s class, the teaching theme was “Let’s Make a Travel Plan.” The robot Xiao Na invited students to assist in conducting a survey on the most popular travel destinations for 2025. Through a series of task-driven and interactive quiz segments, students’ learning interests were stimulated, and they applied the key functional sentences from the lesson. Students eagerly communicated with the robot, expressing their travel wishes for the summer vacation.
The English classes of the two teachers integrated the use of iFLYTEK AI speaking and listening classroom equipment, recording all students’ voice content in real-time, analyzing it through a voice recognition system for precise analysis, and implementing personalized English learning for students.
The English teachers of the middle-grade group, through collective wisdom, embraced new technologies and concepts with optimism in their daily teaching, treating every lesson with seriousness, not just during the demonstration lesson.
Teacher Evaluation
Teacher Sun Weiguo
Teacher Mi’s class fully reflects the progression of unit learning activities. Based on vocabulary teaching in the first lesson, this class created richer investigation and reporting activities, assisting students in fully mobilizing what they have learned, combining it with new knowledge to complete tasks, and demonstrating the progression of learning interaction and the enhancement of thinking levels.
Teacher Zhang Chunyan
Teacher Hao Aimei’s class focused on student generation. Under the teaching background of the robot Xiao Na as a tour guide, the learning of this class unfolded, with students actively interacting with each other, continuously advancing the class through questions and answers. Students not only learned about the scenic spots of several famous Chinese cities but also expanded their understanding of related natural culture, maintaining high enthusiasm in class.
Teacher Xuan Teng
Teacher Mi used task-driven teaching as a clear line, creating a real and sufficient teaching context. Students, using the opportunity to help the robot find out “what are the most popular travel destinations for 2025,” further learned how to discuss travel plans based on the first lesson. At the end of the class, students’ survey reports helped Xiao Na understand their vacation plans, while they learned and practiced language skills, enhancing their pragmatic abilities.
Teacher Chen Lei
Teacher Hao’s class effectively grasped students’ learning conditions, clarified the teaching context, and focused on breakthroughs in teaching difficulties. The bomb practice word game and group collaboration to introduce travel cities activities stimulated students’ enthusiasm and interest in learning. Students learned through play and did through learning, achieving excellent teaching results.
Teacher Guo Ying
Teachers Hao and Mi presented us with a demonstration class of two consecutive lessons, introducing the robot friend “Xiao Na”. By introducing Chinese scenic spots and recommending travel plans as tasks, students completed a series of learning activities. While interacting with “Xiao Na,” students received real-time feedback from their robot friend, providing them with a sense of satisfaction and achievement in learning English.
Conclusion
This practice of English teaching with the robot + teacher “dual teacher” model not only brought a new learning experience to students but also provided new ideas for English teaching. It changed the traditional teaching model of “teacher speaks, students listen,” achieving human-machine collaboration, making classroom interactions richer and teaching content more diverse.
