2009: Start and Introduction
Dr. Feng Bing, the founder of LOOKLONG Imaging, introduced the EMVA1288 standard while working at Lingyun Optics (Beijing) and led the development of a performance testing platform for image sensors and cameras. This platform is used for screening image sensors and conducting optoelectronic performance tests on cameras in the camera R&D department. Since the EMVA1288 standard employs a completely objective criterion for evaluating the optoelectronic performance of cameras, it eliminates any potential subjective factors, making the test results very “fair and just”. Dr. Feng named it after the Greek goddess Themis, representing “law and justice”, implying that the device serves as a scale for objectively evaluating the basic optoelectronic performance of image sensors and cameras.

2015: Departure and Transformation
Dr. Feng left Lingyun Optics (where he served as the Technical Director of the Device Division), laying the foundation for his future entrepreneurial endeavors.
2017: Standard Review and Upgrade
At the invitation of CMVU (China Machine Vision Union), Dr. Feng conducted the final review of the Chinese version of the EMVA1288 standard and upgraded it to the latest version EMVA1288 R3.1 at that time. This version was officially released in October 2017.

Considering that the Themis testing platform, which was developed under Dr. Feng’s leadership at Lingyun Optics, required too high a skill level from testers and that the entire image acquisition process was mostly manual (a complete test could take an entire day, resulting in very low testing efficiency), Dr. Feng began developing a new camera testing device based on the latest EMVA1288 standard. The goal was to improve testing efficiency and lower the entry barrier, allowing camera R&D engineers or testing engineers to easily and quickly complete the entire testing process, making their work more easy to handle. Therefore, the new EMVA1288 testing device was named: ez1288.
2018: Exhibition Debut and Company Establishment
In March 2018, with the support of CMVU, Dr. Feng showcased the newly developed ez1288-P36 portable camera tester and the ez1288-RD66 research camera testing platform at the VisionChina Shanghai Machine Vision Exhibition. At the exhibition, several users, including Hikvision, expressed clear intentions to purchase the equipment.

In April 2018, Xi’an LOOKLONG Imaging Technology Co., Ltd. was officially established. Based on the ez1288 prototype, the company upgraded the hardware and software of the device by incorporating user feedback and officially began selling camera performance testing instruments.

2019: Joining the International Working Group
In November 2019, ten years after introducing the EMVA1288 standard to China, the company officially joined the EMVA1288 working group and began participating in the revision and amendment of the EMVA1288 standard.

2020: Breakthrough in Platform Development
In 2020, the prototype of the ez1288-RD95 image sensor and camera performance testing platform was completed. The first set of the ez1288-C132 large image sensor and camera performance testing platform was developed and delivered to a customer in Chengdu.

2021: Standard Revision and Upgrade
In June 2021, the EMVA1288 R4.0, which LOOKLONG Imaging participated in revising, officially came into effect on June 16, 2021! The accompanying software algorithms for ez1288 were also updated and officially released. At the same time, free software upgrades were provided to all users of ez1288 devices.

2022: Release of Customized Products by the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) and Mass Production
In 2022, the customized version of the product NIMS1288 was officially released by the National Institute of Metrology. Users can directly purchase camera performance testing products certified by the National Institute of Metrology.

The ez1288-P36 was upgraded to ez1288-P46, and mass production and sales began.

2023: Finalization and Delivery of the R&D Model RD95
In 2023, the R&D model ez1288-RD95 was finalized and began mass delivery. At the same time, the NIMS1288-RD95, certified by the National Institute of Metrology, was released, allowing users to directly purchase the RD95 image sensor and camera performance testing platform from the National Institute of Metrology.

2024: Standard Upgrade to ISO24942 and Delivery of the Hangzhou Testing Platform
In September 2024, ISO/TC42 officially established the WG28 working group, and Dr. Feng Bing from LOOKLONG Imaging became one of the few EMVA1288 experts in this group, participating in the work to convert the EMVA1288 standard into the ISO24942 standard.

In December 2024, the “National Testing” image sensor camera performance testing platform, jointly developed with the Hangzhou Institute of Photoelectric Machinery (the national designated official camera testing institution and the SAC/TC107 affiliated unit), was officially delivered.

2025: Equipment Passes CNAS Certification!
In May 2025, based on the “National Testing” testing system, the Hangzhou Institute of Photoelectric Machinery passed the CNAS certification for the testing platform laboratory based on the EMVA1288 standard. This laboratory also became the first in the country to pass CNAS certification and provide EMVA1288 standard testing services to users.

After writing for a long time, I forgot to introduce the core essence of ez1288: the accompanying software. 😢
