Want to use FPGA to create your own CPU? A few years ago, it was the era of MIPS and RISC, and making a MIPS or RISC processor on FPGA was the dream of every beginner in FPGA. Then, RISC-V created a huge wave, but currently, commercially available RISC-V products are quite rare, and the overall construction is still somewhat cumbersome, with the toolchain not being very complete. However, the good news is that in June 2017, ARM officially announced that the Cortex-M0/M3 processor cores are royalty-free, with a complete toolchain and strong support from ARM, making the Cortex-M0/M3 processors a choice for many manufacturers.
Currently, some FPGA manufacturers in China have integrated M0/M3 into their FPGA to implement a simplified version of “FPGA SoC”.
