In the golden autumn of September, a season of harvest and a new journey’s starting point, this autumn holds special significance for Teacher Zhan Shaozong of the Intelligent Manufacturing College at Guangdong Hotel Management Vocational Technical College. This marks his second year stepping out of the campus and onto the podium, where he has sown seeds of hope in the fertile ground of education, waiting for the blossoms of life.
Reflecting on his short yet fulfilling teaching journey, Zhan Shaozong feels a surge of emotions. “The school has provided me with a broad platform, and the support from leaders and colleagues has helped me smoothly transition from student to teacher,” he said with a smile.Sometimes, standing on the podium and looking at the attentive students below, he feels as if he sees himself from years ago, and that wonderful feeling of ‘teaching and learning from each other’ has deepened his understanding of the weight of education.
At the Guangdong Hotel Management College, Zhan Shaozong deeply feels the school’s high regard for education and teaching: the Academic Affairs and Research Office strictly ensures teaching quality and teacher ethics, the logistics team fully supports teaching facilities, and the Teacher Development Center aids in teachers’ professional growth… All of this has made this young teacher feel warm and has helped him quickly integrate into this united and progressive family.
In the Intelligent Manufacturing College, Zhan Shaozong has also encountered mentors and friends who guide him forward. Dean Zhao Hua has provided him with a detailed interpretation of the school’s strategic deployment of balancing ‘new engineering and new business disciplines’, emphasizing a ‘people-oriented’ approach to professional development, which has pointed him in the right direction for the application and development of new majors such as New Energy Vehicle Technology. Peer teacher Chen Guanru won first prize in the school-level teaching competition, and his efforts and persistence have shown him the infinite possibilities of young teachers; more experienced colleagues selflessly share practical experiences in lesson planning and paper publishing, aiding his steady growth.
As a young teacher in higher education,Zhan Shaozong always remembers the educational principle of ‘student-centered’. He actively attends classes, humbly seeks advice, and continuously integrates modern educational methods, striving to create an efficient classroom where ‘teachers teach well and students learn effectively.’He understands that interest is the best teacher, so he introduces vivid cases such as ‘automated bargaining markets’ in his C Language Programming course, using flipped classrooms, group debates, and point-based Q&A formats to bring dry theories to life and ignite students’ enthusiasm for learning.
“Education is not about filling a bucket, but lighting a fire,” Zhan Shaozong said. “Only by truly sparking students’ interest can they think actively, dare to practice, and ultimately achieve success.”
Although the path of education is not always smooth, Zhan Shaozong firmly believes that the bitterness of the process will eventually yield the sweetness of harvest. Currently, he has participated in the development of several new majors such as New Energy Vehicle Technology and Automotive Electronics Technology, is responsible for the construction of training rooms and the drafting of talent cultivation plans, and has obtained multiple qualifications including the Ministry of Transport’s Automotive Inspection and Maintenance Professional Capability Evaluation Certificate and Assistant Engineer in Mechanical Design, practicing the educational philosophy of ‘educating with skills and nurturing hearts with hearts’ through his actions.

In the future, I wish to continue being a ‘light bearer’ on students’ growth paths, earning respect through professionalism, enlightening the future with wisdom, and accompanying every young dream to shine brightly.
