1. Basic Concepts

Integrated Circuit (IC) is a microelectronic device that integrates transistors, capacitors, resistors, and inductors, along with interconnections, fabricated on several semiconductor wafers or dielectric substrates, and encapsulated within a package to perform specific circuit functions. The integrated circuit industry is not only a significant leverage in current international political and economic competition but also one of the most fiercely competitive industries with the most thorough global resource flow and allocation.

2. Classification

Based on functionality and structure, integrated circuits are mainly classified into digital integrated circuits and analog integrated circuits.

Understanding Integrated Circuits

Digital integrated circuits primarily include logic devices, memory, and microprocessors. Logic devices are integrated circuits that perform logical calculations; memory is used to store programs and various data information; microprocessors can fetch instructions, execute instructions, and exchange information with external memory and logic devices. Analog integrated circuits are chips that integrate analog circuits to process analog signals, such as operational amplifiers, analog multipliers, phase-locked loops, and power management chips.

3. Industry Chain

The integrated circuit industry chain can be divided into three main modules: upstream, midstream, and downstream, along with supporting industries. The upstream consists of the chip design industry, the midstream involves chip manufacturing and packaging/testing, and the downstream pertains to the end applications of chips. The raw materials and manufacturing equipment for integrated circuits are the supporting industries of the entire sector.
