StarFighter: Linux Laptop with 4K Display
The UK hardware company Star Labs plans to launch StarFighter — a new type of Linux laptop, currently finalizing more production details. According to the introduction,StarFighter features a 15.6-inch, matte 4K IPS 16:9 display (possibly 3840×2160 resolution, ideal for 2x scaling), and will offer LVFS support. MNT is a German company developing open-source hardware and software, which believes that the future of digital life is sustainable and open-source, and previously released a laptop called MNT Reform starting at $999. Now MNT is set to launch a mini laptop named Pocket Reform, expected to be available in late July this year, with pricing yet to be announced.Pocket Reform features a 7-inch 1080P resolution screen (approximately 310 ppi), a mechanical keyboard with 60 keys, four transparent keys, and a 10mm trackball below the keyboard.Most importantly, Pocket Reform adopts a modular design for CPU, memory, etc., with the standard processor being the NXP (NXP) i.MX 8M Plus, which includes four ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz, a Vivante GC7000UL GPU, and an NPU unit. ROMA: The First Developer-Focused RISC-V Laptop
Xcalibyte announced ROMA, claiming to be the world’s first “native” RISC-V laptop for developers, led by RISC-V International (a non-profit organization), co-developed by Deepcomputing and Xcalibyte, capable of providing a native RISC-V development experience.ROMA notably includes a “RISC-V” key, which some speculate is a shortcut key to launch the development environment or a simple standard customizable programming key.According to the press release, ROMA is equipped with a quad-core RISC-V CPU, a GPU/NPU accelerator, up to 16GB LPDDR4/LPDDR4X memory, and up to 256GB of storage, supporting most Linux distributions. The official has not yet disclosed more detailed technical specifications, so the appearance and price of ROMA are also not mentioned in the press release.
