On November 19, a new type of automated multi-functional remote-controlled robot introduced by the Taizishan Forestry Bureau of Hubei Province was officially put into use. This is the first instance in our province of applying a multi-functional remote-controlled robot in the field of forest fire prevention, which will further accelerate the transition of traditional forestry towards high-end, intelligent, and green development.
It is understood that the Jiahang multi-functional remote-controlled robot is equipped with a tracked drive system, suitable for operations in various harsh environments, capable of performing omnidirectional operations on slopes of up to 55-60°. It has a wireless remote control range of 150 meters, and the working head made of high-strength special steel can easily fell and crush trees with a diameter of 15-20cm, and quickly excavate raw soil. It is particularly suitable for creating firebreaks in forest firefighting, as it can clear paths for personnel to walk in to extinguish fires, push down burning trees, and bury embers. It can also establish command posts, parking lots, and camping areas.
Chen Yong, the head of the Fire Prevention Department of the Taizishan Forestry Bureau, said: “The robot can work continuously for eight hours and is operated remotely by personnel, greatly enhancing safety.”
The Taizishan forest area is vast, with complex terrain and a long fire prevention line. Previously, relying on manual patrols led to insufficient coverage in remote areas and high risks in hazardous scenarios. The multi-functional remote-controlled robot can adapt to various terrain environments and is an all-rounder in firefighting operations, mainly used for creating isolation belts during fire prevention and firefighting, with an efficiency three times that of manual operations. Additionally, it plays a role in forestry production such as land reclamation, weeding, and forest maintenance.
According to relevant personnel from the Taizishan Forestry Bureau, the multi-functional remote-controlled robot put into use this time was procured through a public tender as part of the forest fire prevention enhancement project, and two units have been newly purchased.
“We are organizing personnel to cooperate with the manufacturer for practical operation training. In the future, we will expand the scale of introduction and distribute it to frontline production units for promotion and use,” said Chen Yong.
