SimpleLink™ Multi-Band CC1352R Wireless MCU LaunchPad™ Development Kit

The CC1352R device, manufactured by Texas Instruments, is a wireless MCU that supports multiple protocols <1GHz and 2.4GHz>, primarily used for wireless M-Bus, IEEE802.15.4, 6LoWPAN, Zigbee®, Thread, KNX RF, Wi-SUN®, and Bluetooth® 5 low-energy systems and proprietary systems.

Its main features include:

  • A LaunchPad with a sub-1GHz radio suitable for wireless applications with an integrated PCB trace antenna

  • A broadband antenna that supports the European 868MHz ISM band and the US 915MHz ISM band through the single board

  • Immediate code development in CCS Cloud with the onboard emulator

  • Compatible with LaunchPad kits and SmartRF™ Studio applications

  • Access to all I/O signals via BoosterPack plug-in module connectors

  • Compatible with LCD BoosterPack

The CC1352R device is an economical member of the CC26xx and CC13xx series of ultra-low-power, 2.4 GHz and Sub-1 GHz RF devices. It integrates a flexible ultra-low-power RF transceiver and a powerful 48-MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4F CPU on a platform that supports multiple physical layers and RF standards. With very low RF and microcontroller (MCU) currents, sleep currents below μA, and up to 80KB of RAM, it achieves excellent battery life with small button batteries. Its dedicated radio controller (Arm® Cortex®-M0) can handle low-level RF protocol instructions stored in ROM or RAM without compromising RF performance, providing excellent sensitivity and robustness (selectivity and blocking). Sensors can be processed in an ultra-low-power manner by a programmable autonomous ultra-low-power sensor controller CPU, which has 4KB SRAM for programs and data. The sensor controller features fast wake-up capabilities and an ultra-low-power 2 MHz mode designed for sampling, buffering, and processing sensor data; thus, the MCU system can maximize sleep time and reduce power consumption.

SimpleLink™ Multi-Band CC1352R Wireless MCU LaunchPad™ Development Kit

The CC1352 device is part of the SimpleLink™ microcontroller (MCU) platform, which supports various connectivity protocols and standards in the 2.4 GHz and Sub-1 GHz bands, including the latest Thread and Zigbee standards, Bluetooth Low Energy, IEEE 802.15.4, and wireless M-Bus. They share a common and user-friendly single-core software development kit (SDK) and a rich development environment. With a one-time integration on the SimpleLink platform, you can add any combination of these devices to your design, allowing for 100% code reuse when design requirements change. For more information, please visitwww.ti.com/simplelink. This LaunchPad kit supports programming and debugging in Code Composer Studio and IAR Embedded Workbench integrated development environments (IDE). Start with Project.0 from the TI Resource Explorer, and complete development in minutes. In CCS Cloud (part of TI’s cloud tools), you can build Project.0 and download it to the LaunchPad toolkit using just a web browser. Project.0 is a fully functional peripheral application that allows control of the LaunchPad kit’s LEDs from the TI SimpleLink Starter application or any compatible device supporting Bluetooth Low Energy. This project also demonstrates the flexibility of TI RTOS and utilizes the onboard USB serial port of the LaunchPad kit to display diagnostic information about Bluetooth Low Energy connections.

The CC1352R device is a highly integrated true single-chip solution that integrates a complete RF system and an on-chip DC/DC converter, significantly enhancing the hardware features based on the performance of the CC1350 device while supporting the attractive low-power Bluetooth 5. This allows for data conversion from SUB-1G to Bluetooth on a single-chip device, enabling seamless data transmission from endpoint to cloud. Undoubtedly, the CC1352R will dominate various IoT fields in the future, including smart homes, wearables, mobile e-commerce, and healthcare.

Additionally, the CC1352R can run OpenThread, see:https://openthread.io/platforms/cc1352
