Qualcomm Launches Three New Processors to Compete with MediaTek

[TechWeb Report] In last year’s smartphone processor battle, Huawei’s Kirin 950 emerged as a dark horse, performing on par with Snapdragon 810, Samsung Exynos 7420, and MediaTek Helio X10, achieving impressive results. The Mate 8, equipped with the Kirin 950 processor, became the strongest Android device. However, this year, Snapdragon 820, MediaTek Helio X20, and Samsung Exynos 8890 will once again go head-to-head. Surprisingly, Qualcomm has today launched three new processors: Snapdragon 425, 435, and 625.

Now, let’s introduce these three processors:

Qualcomm Launches Three New Processors to Compete with MediaTek

Snapdragon 425 features a quad-core Cortex-A53 architecture, manufactured using a 28nm LP process, with a clock speed of 1.4GHz. The GPU is Adreno 308, supporting up to 16 million pixel cameras and 1280×800 resolution displays. It integrates the X6 LTE modem (LTE Cat.4 for all networks). Other specifications include LPDDR3 667MHz memory, eMMC 5.1 flash storage, QC2.0 fast charging, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Bluetooth 4.1, with the future specific model being MSM8917.

Snapdragon 435 upgrades to an octa-core Cortex-A53 architecture, with a clock speed of 1.4GHz, also manufactured using a 28nm LP process. The GPU is Adreno 505, supporting up to 21 million pixel cameras and 1080p displays. It integrates the X8 LTE modem (LTE Cat.6 for all networks). Other specifications include LPDDR3 800MHz memory, eMMC5.1 flash storage, QC3.0 fast charging, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Bluetooth 4.1, with the future specific model being MSM8940.

Snapdragon 625 is also an octa-core Cortex-A53 architecture product, with a clock speed reaching 2.0GHz, manufactured using a 14nm LPP process. The GPU is Adreno 506, supporting up to 24 million pixel cameras and 1900×1200 resolution displays. It integrates the X9 LTE modem (LTE Cat.7 for all networks). Other specifications include LPDDR3 933MHz memory, eMMC5.1 flash storage, QC3.0 fast charging, 802.11ac wireless networking, and Bluetooth 4.1, with the future specific model being MSM8953.

It is worth mentioning that the direct competitor of Snapdragon 625 is MediaTek Helio X10, both in manufacturing process and technical specifications. Therefore, it can be seen that Helio X10’s positioning this year is naturally lowered.
