At the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition opening on April 25, 2024, Sinch Technology and HMI development software provider Qt Group jointly released and showcased a new intelligent cockpit solution: the Outrun digital cockpit solution based on the Sinch X9SP and Qt 6.5 LTS, as well as a dashboard solution based on the Sinch E3340 and Qt for MCUs 2.5 LTS. Both parties will jointly support the development of mass production projects for automotive companies.

Sinch Technology and Qt have long collaborated in the field of intelligent cockpits, establishing a close ecological partnership and jointly creating multiple mass production projects. The two new intelligent cockpit solutions made their debut at the Sinch booth in the Beijing China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall) E3-W01.

Outrun Digital Cockpit Solution Based on Sinch X9SP and Qt 6.5 LTS

Sinch and Qt began their collaboration in the field of in-vehicle dashboard solutions in 2020. Based on the Sinch X9H intelligent cockpit chip, they jointly completed the development of a Linux + Qt dashboard demonstration. In March 2024, they teamed up again to adapt the Sinch X9SP development board to Qt 6.5 LTS, achieving the Outrun digital cockpit demonstration, which supports multiple screens from a single chip, covering virtual dashboards, main driver central control, and co-driver navigation, while simultaneously running multiple independent operating systems such as Linux, QNX, and Android.

Outrun Digital Cockpit Demonstration Based on Sinch X9SP and Qt 6.5 LTS

The Outrun digital cockpit demonstration includes a dashboard, in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), featuring a unified design style, showcasing high-fidelity rendering of 500,000 polygon-level vehicle models and terrain scenes, and supporting functions such as 3D vehicle models, vehicle control settings, music, navigation, and charging.

This digital cockpit solution utilizes the latest Qt Quick 3D module to implement 3D dashboards, ADAS, and IVI, with rich cool effects in the scene, such as real-time Gaussian blur, global illumination, real-time projection, and dynamic switching between day and night.

The Outrun demonstration is entirely built using the UI design tool Qt Design Studio, which constructs prototypes containing complex 3D and animation effects, automatically generates QML code, and allows direct preview of effects on target devices.

Dashboard Solution Based on Sinch E3340 and Qt for MCUs 2.5 LTS

In June 2022, the Qt Group China team and Sinch Technology jointly completed the adaptation of the automotive-grade MCU E3 with Qt for MCUs 2.2 LTS, creating an MCU dashboard solution. In February 2024, both parties collaborated again to update and upgrade this solution.

The upgraded solution employs the latest graphics library of the Sinch E3340 MCU product and Qt for MCUs 2.5 LTS, adding sequential frame animation components, independent animations, hardware-accelerated vector graphics rendering, and dynamic font compression, while achieving comprehensive performance optimization, easily displaying various information such as vehicle speed, RPM, fuel level, water temperature, mileage, and ADAS on traditional dashboards. Additionally, the dashboard can alert drivers to vehicle status through warning messages and fault indications, ensuring driving safety; it can also achieve direct screen display via LDVS or RGB, supporting vehicle ADAS screen projection, providing basic and special functions such as CAN OBD updates, and supporting the deployment of information security and functional safety, further ensuring travel safety.

Thanks to the superior performance of Sinch MCU products, Qt for MCUs achieves high-quality rendering effects at a resolution of 1920×720, relying on an efficient engine to ensure a stable refresh rate of 60 frames per second.

Meanwhile, the Sinch and Qt Group China teams have completed the adaptation of the MCU, supporting 2D hardware acceleration, with a built-in dynamic vector font engine providing various font size options. On this basis, developers can utilize Qt Design Studio for direct UI visual development, while efficiently programming through QML, achieving direct debugging of UI effects in the PC simulator and one-click running to devices with Qt Creator, significantly improving MCU development efficiency.

In the future, based on Sinch Technology’s high-performance, high-reliability automotive chip products and Qt’s strong HMI development software capabilities, both parties will continue to deepen their close cooperation in the intelligent cockpit field, increase R&D investment, continuously enhance technical strength and innovation capabilities, and jointly assist customers in creating a new intelligent travel experience.
