Intelligent supervision ensures the safety of gas usage

Gas safety concerns every household. In recent years, Jieshou City has seized the opportunity of constructing safety projects for urban lifelines, focusing on dual enhancements of software and hardware, promoting both construction and management, and effectively ensuring the stable supply of urban gas, taking concrete actions to protect the safety of residents’ lives and property.
“We conducted a gas safety hazard investigation and found a gas leak in this community, immediately carrying out a large-scale inspection of the entire community, discovering that many indoor pipelines had begun to rust. Therefore, we plan to replace some of the indoor pipelines with outdoor pipelines,” said a relevant person in charge of Jieshou Haite Gas Company.
The Zhongnan Commercial City community, built in 2000, has gas pipelines that have been in use for over 10 years. Early last year, the gas company updated and renovated some of the rusted gas pipelines in the community. “According to the plan, the rectification has now been completed,” said a relevant person in charge of the gas company.
Since the beginning of 2024, Jieshou City has conducted a comprehensive inspection of over 20 kilometers of municipal pipelines, more than 30 kilometers of courtyard pipelines, over 30 kilometers of industrial pipelines, and more than 60,000 gas users, selecting to implement updates and renovations. “During the inspection, we identified and rectified over 30 issues, completing approximately 20 kilometers of gas pipeline updates, laying a solid foundation to effectively eliminate the problem of gas pipelines operating with defects,” said a relevant person in charge of the Jieshou City Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
In addition to the updates and renovations of hardware facilities, intelligent supervision methods are also key to ensuring gas safety. In the command and dispatch room of the Xinao Natural Gas Company in the city, the urban lifeline gas supervision system monitors the operation of gas equipment, gas pipelines, and gas stations in real-time.
Recently, an intelligent valve well near the Dongcheng Industrial Park detected abnormal gas. After receiving the command from the dispatch room, maintenance personnel quickly arrived at the scene. “Using an ethane analyzer to analyze the combustible gas in the valve room, the analysis results showed no ethane concentration, indicating it was not natural gas. We then used an explosion-proof axial flow fan to ventilate the area around the valve well and reported the situation back to the street office, suggesting they carry out dredging treatment,” said a staff member of the gas company.
It is reported that Jieshou is currently building an intelligent supervision network covering the entire city, increasing the installation of more intelligent monitoring devices for risk points, intelligent valve wells, and ‘Gas Sentinels’ for detecting combustible gases in underground spaces, while simultaneously upgrading and renovating a thousand commercial users’ natural gas alarm cut-off linkage devices, effectively reducing the risk of gas leaks causing explosions.
“By establishing a full-process closed-loop management system for gas hazard ‘discovery – assignment – handling – feedback’, the overall work efficiency has improved by about 60% compared to before,” said a relevant person in charge of the Jieshou City Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, who will create conditions to pilot the gas industrial AI robot cabin system throughout the city, achieving a 3-second gas response and a 30-second valve closure, linking related equipment to ensure emergency repairs without gas interruption, further improving emergency repair efficiency and effectively ensuring users’ gas supply is more stable and safe.
