New Brand Thrives: Selling 60,000 Units in 10 Months, C-Class Cars Starting at 119,900, Half the Price of Xiaomi SU7?
Who says the market only recognizes Mercedes and BMW? Recently, a “dark horse” has emerged in the C-Class car market, selling an astonishing 60,000 units in just 10 months, with a starting price of only 119,900, which is about half the price of the Xiaomi SU7!
This kind of cost-performance ratio is simply a slap in the face of traditional luxury brands!
The latest sales ranking for August has been released, with the Xiaomi SU7 taking the top spot for a single model, selling over 13,000 units, pushing the long-standing champion Audi A6L to second place!
However, in terms of total sales, the BYD Han is still stronger, with combined sales of the DM-i and EV versions reaching 15,326 units, firmly holding the top position in the C-Class car sales chart.
Looking at this pattern, the traditional fuel vehicle camp has been gradually eroded by new energy vehicles.
Speaking of the “price war” in the C-Class car segment, we cannot overlook the Zeekr 001, a “niche hunting electric vehicle”. With a guide price of over 250,000, this domestic car can sell 8,481 units per month, making it “as steady as a rock” in this bloody market!
Why can new energy vehicles break through in the C-Class car market?
The core lies in the two swords of “electrification” and “intelligence”.
Under the restrictions of purchase and usage policies, electric vehicles have become a necessity. Especially for young people, high-tech features like smart cockpits, autonomous driving, and remote OTA updates are undeniably more attractive compared to traditional cars.
The Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with the Surge OS, featuring a 720Hz touch sampling rate, which is even smoother than your phone! Various function switches experience almost “zero lag”. This sense of technology is simply a “must-have configuration” for digital enthusiasts!
Even so, the “German Three” still occupy important positions on the sales chart. Especially the Audi A6L, which, with an entry price under 500,000, firmly holds the second place in sales.
The BMW 5 Series only sold 5,600 units, ranking seventh, which is indeed a bit awkward. Some have complained, “I don’t even want to buy it just by looking at the design”. But honestly, it’s more about the price issue—if it gets a bit cheaper, it might catch up with the Mercedes E-Class.
There are also some “lukewarm” models in the market, with the Audi A7L and Volvo S90 only selling over 2,000 units per month. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a signal of the “twilight of fuel vehicles”; they were never the main players to begin with.
The true benchmark for fuel vehicles still lies with the “56E” (5 Series, 6 Series, E-Class).
The price war in April was truly dazzling!
The XPeng G9 directly offered a “smart driving subsidy” of up to 20,000, starting at 243,900. NIO announced an investment of 1 billion in subsidies, with a maximum savings of 15,000 for converting from fuel to electric. The AITO M7 directly reduced its official price by 20,000, with a starting price slashed to 229,800!
The most bizarre thing is Tesla, which raised the price of the Model Y by 5,000 against the trend, with a total increase of up to 23,000, which is truly incomprehensible.
The second round of sales for the Xiaomi SU7 founder’s edition sold out immediately after opening at 12:00 on April 1, making it even harder to grab than concert tickets!
Looking to the future, the competition between fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles will become even more intense. New energy C-Class cars like the BYD Han, which are “popularized”, will become increasingly popular. German luxury brands are also accelerating their electrification transformation.
Whoever can take the lead in intelligent driving and in-car systems may become the new leader in the C-Class car market. I once test-drove the HPC version of the Xiaomi SU7, and that 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.78 seconds felt like being hit by a golf club, powerful and linear!
I bet that the competitive landscape of the C-Class car market will be reshuffled again in the next two years.
