Recently, the OPPO Reno 3 series standard version equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L and the Pro version equipped with the Snapdragon 765G has caused some confusion, as the former performs better in benchmark scores and overall performance. It is clearly a slightly cut-down version of the flagship Dimensity 1000, and it feels a bit like “bullying the weak” to position it against the Snapdragon 765G. Now, MediaTek has officially launched its true mid-range dual-mode 5G SoC.
Today, in the morning, MediaTek officially launched the Dimensity 800 SoC at CES 2020, which is based on TSMC’s 7nm process and integrates the M70 5G modem, supporting dual-mode 5G SA and NSA sub-6GHz networks, 2CC carrier aggregation, dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS), and VoNR services.
In terms of specifications, the MediaTek Dimensity 800 features a CPU configuration of 4×2 GHz Cortex-A76 + 4×2 GHz Cortex-A55, a 4xG77 GPU, supporting a maximum FHD+ resolution with a 90Hz refresh rate, and an ISP that supports up to a 64MP sensor.
As for partners and production timelines, MediaTek stated that the first batch of smartphones equipped with the Dimensity 800 processor will be launched before the first half of 2020. Additionally, according to previous leaks, both Huawei and Xiaomi seem to have collaborations, targeting the budget segment, with theoretical performance between the Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 765G.
