IoT Application Technology

Overview

The IoT Application Technology program was established in 2020, originating from the IoT application technology direction of the Electronic Information Engineering Technology program. It is one of the high-level programs under the national “Double High Plan” (A level).

✪ In 2016, this program established a provincial-level vocational education IoT training base, and in 2019, it was officially awarded the national teacher training base for the “1+X” vocational skill level certificate in sensor network application development. The IoT Application Technology program is one of the key programs supported for development by the school, with a complete practical teaching system and advanced experimental and training facilities that meet the first-class standards in the country.✪ In recent years, the employment rate of graduates from the IoT Application Technology program has remained stable at over 95%, with a strong willingness among students to pursue further studies. In 2021, the ratio of students successfully transferring to undergraduate programs reached 44.9%, a record high in recent years.

Training Objectives

This program aims to cultivate students with firm ideals and beliefs, comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor aspects; possessing a certain level of scientific and cultural literacy, good humanistic quality, professional ethics, and innovative awareness; with a spirit of craftsmanship and strong employment capacity and sustainable development ability. Students will master the relevant knowledge and technical skills in this field, targeting jobs in the IoT industry, software and information technology services, and manufacturing industries related to computers, communications, and electronic devices. Graduates will be capable of engaging in tasks such as installation and debugging of IoT systems and devices, planning and management of IoT engineering projects, operation and maintenance of IoT systems, development of IoT application systems, and marketing and after-sales service of IoT devices.

Notable location advantages: China has formed four major IoT industry clusters, and the school is located in the core mid-western IoT industry cluster centered around Chongqing and Wuhan, providing unique advantages for school-enterprise cooperation and student employment.

Outstanding achievements in talent cultivation: Students in this program have won over 30 provincial-level and above awards, such as the national third prize in the IoT application technology category at the National Vocational Colleges Skills Competition, the provincial first prize in the IoT application technology competition, and special awards in various competitions including the “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Challenge Cup.

Main Courses

Main courses include sensor application technology, embedded technology, automatic identification technology, wireless networking technology, object-oriented programming, database basics, network construction and maintenance, IoT application program design, IoT project planning and implementation, and comprehensive training for IoT application systems.Faculty Team

The program currently has 19 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 7 associate professors, and 15 with master’s degrees or above, with 8 full-time teachers having industry experience. The proportion of dual-qualified teachers is 100%. Additionally, there are 8 part-time teachers from enterprises, including one master from Chutian Skills, forming a rationally structured faculty team in terms of education level, professional title, and age.

In the past three years, the faculty team has hosted and completed 14 horizontal research projects, with a total funding amount of 2.39 million. They have hosted 10 provincial-level and above research projects. In the national vocational colleges teaching ability competition, they won a national third prize; in the Hubei provincial vocational colleges teaching ability competition, they won one provincial first prize and one second prize; and multiple teachers have received the title of excellent instructor in student competitions.

Training Conditions

The program has a provincial-level training center for IoT technology, covering nearly 1000 square meters, with 8 professional training rooms, including: IoT Radio Frequency Identification Technology Training Room, Network Sensor Technology Training Room, IoT Engineering Training Room, IoT Experience Center, IoT Innovation Design Room, Electronic Measurement Training Room, Electronic Technology Laboratory, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Training Room.

The training rooms are equipped with IoT training experimental equipment (IoT RFID technology experimental boxes, RFID development platforms, wireless sensor network teaching platforms, sensor network development platforms, IoT sensor teaching platforms, IoT basic training experimental platforms, IoT mobile internet teaching platforms, IoT module innovation application platforms, IoT engineering comprehensive training platforms), with 50 sets of each type of equipment. Each laboratory is equipped with computers, projectors, and other supporting facilities, allowing 50 people to simultaneously engage in basic knowledge learning and related practical training in IoT. There are also modules for agricultural intelligent traceability scenarios and background systems, intelligent traceability slaughter planting chain subsystems, intelligent traceability information subsystems, smart traceability auxiliary subsystems, intelligent traffic access control systems, and remote medical display systems, enabling students to understand the practical applications of IoT.

Cooperating Enterprises

This program has signed school-enterprise cooperation agreements with several companies, including Newland Technology Co., Huawei Technologies Co., Wuhan Weizhong Zhichuang Technology Co., and Wuhan Huilian Wuxian Technology Co. In 2021, it established a school-enterprise collaborative training base for education integration with Beijing Newland Times Education Technology Co., jointly founding the Newland IoT Vocational Skills Training Center, deeply cooperating with enterprises to jointly cultivate professional talents.

Employment and Further Studies

(1) Normal Employment

China has basically formed a spatial pattern of four major IoT industry clusters centered around Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chongqing, with related job opportunities mainly in first- and second-tier cities and economically developed regions.

1. Employment Demand

The rapid development of the IoT industry has created a strong demand for professionals in IoT application technology. Two new occupations closely related to the IoT specialty have been announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The IoT industry in China is currently in a phase of rapid development, with more and more enterprises frequently laying out in the IoT field, increasing the salary levels for IoT-related positions.

2. Employment Directions

Graduates can engage in IoT project design planning and construction management, IoT installation and debugging, IoT application system development, IoT system operation management and maintenance, and marketing and after-sales service of IoT devices in the IoT industry.

(2) Transfer to Undergraduate Programs

In the past three years, the employment rate of graduates from the IoT Application Technology program has remained stable at over 95%. In the past three years, students cultivated in this program have been admitted to various undergraduate programs in Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Automation, etc., at universities such as Jianghan University, Hubei University of Economics, Yangtze University, Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan University of Light Industry, Hubei Normal University, and Hubei Second Normal University, with the proportion of students transferring to undergraduate programs increasing year by year, reaching 44.9% in 2021, a record high.
