Home Assistant OS (hereinafter referred to as hassos) is the official system launched by Home Assistant that has homeassistant pre-installed, designed to run on Raspberry Pi. hassos allows you to focus solely on homeassistant itself without worrying about the complexities of the linux system. It offers many useful plugins, such as the essential File edit. Installing and using plugins is exceptionally simple; you just need to click a few buttons, which is a joy that those who manually install homeassistant (hereinafter referred to as manual installers) cannot experience. Because for manual installers, installing a plugin can be a cumbersome process.
In short, the advantages of hassos over manually installing homeassistant are:
1. Simple installation.
2. Convenient plugin installation.
3. Easy upgrades.
4. Additional supervisor sidebar. The supervisor sidebar features a dashboard, plugin store, snapshots, system functions, and more.
Now let’s introduce this installation method.
1. First, you need to have a Raspberry Pi. You can buy one from the Taobao store “Shang En Raspberry Pi Electronics”.
2. Download the system image from the official website. The official website address is

If your Raspberry Pi 4 has2gor4gof memory, it is recommended to download this one.
If your Raspberry Pi 4 has8gof memory, it is recommended to download this one.
You may encounter issues downloading from the official website. I also provide the official download image.

3. After downloading the image, insert the memory card into the card reader, connect the card reader to your computer, and use balenaEtcher as the burning tool.
You can also download the burning tool from the balenaEtcher official website; I also provide the download link.

I really like this burning software; it is simple, clear, and only takes three steps, and it guides you through the process: select image –> select memory card –> burn. Just wait for the burning to complete.
4. After burning successfully, insert the memory card into the Raspberry Pi, connect the network cable, and power it on.
Wait a moment, log into your router, and check the IP address of the Raspberry Pi. For example, if your Raspberry Pi’sipaddress is192.168.2.103 , then enter192.168.2.103:8123 in your browser, and the following interface will appear.
The interface indicates that it will take20minutes, but in fact, it takes longer.Instead of waiting anxiously, it’s better to do something else. Because we are powerless in this regard. Unless you take the Raspberry Pi abroad to download, or use a VPN to increase bandwidth, other than that, I can’t think of any other way to improve the download speed.
The image above indicates that there is a mobile client. For Apple phones, search for homeassistant directly in the App Store, and the first search result is it. Android phones need to download it from Google Play, which requires a VPN. You can also use a browser to access the homeassistant homepage and send it to your phone’s desktop; the experience is similar to that of an app, and it doesn’t take up phone memory, which is also a good option.
5. After waiting for a long time, the following interface finally appears.
When this interface appears, congratulations, you have completed the installation of Home Assistant.
