This article shares two reference books related to Zynq:

  • The Zynq Book – Embedded Processing with the ARM® Cortex®-A9 on the Xilinx® Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC (the Chinese version is translated by Dr. Weng Kai from Zhejiang University, but it’s recommended to read the English version for better understanding)

  • Exploring Zynq® MPSoC – With PYNQ and Machine Learning Applications

The Zynq SoC integrates ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 processors and Xilinx 7 series FPGA architecture, providing advantages in energy consumption, performance, and compatibility akin to ASIC, while also offering the programmability of FPGA hardware.
The MPSoC processor system features up to four ARM Cortex-A53 processor cores and two ARM Cortex-R5 real-time processor cores. Additionally, it can leverage the powerful array-expanded FPGA structure along with a large amount of distributed memory.This new architecture allows the processor system to handle the arithmetic and data movement required by complex emerging artificial intelligence applications today.
Both books are written by several professors from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in the UK. The first book is about Zynq and is divided into three parts with 24 chapters, starting with an overview of Zynq devices, followed by a discussion of the ZedBoard, and quickly transitioning to the information needed to build designs targeting the Zynq family, deeply analyzing the design process and various design options on these devices.Since Zynq is a composite device that can be programmed both in software and hardware, this book covers not only hardware development tools but also introduces high-level language synthesis tools and their development processes.
The second book is about the Zynq Ultrascale+ MPSoC and is divided into six parts with 24 chapters, from an overview of MPSoC to an in-depth look at the A53 and R5 architecture and security, and then to the entire system setup, focusing on the software stack and programming tools.Particularly, it discusses the PYNQ programming environment and the construction of machine learning application systems.
