World of Warcraft The “Wrath of the Lich King” expansion features an equipment catch-up mechanism at every stage. In the original “World of Warcraft” 3.3 patch, the catch-up mechanism present in the P4 phase is what I will introduce today: the “New Three Dungeons.” The “New Three Dungeons” is a shorthand referring to the Soulforge, the Saronite Mines, and the Hall of Reflection, which are three 5-man dungeons. Their relationship to Icecrown Citadel is similar to that of the Trial of the Champion to the Trial of the Crusader.
The entrance to the New Three Dungeons is located on the side of Icecrown Citadel. After the P4 phase opens, Dalaran will add quests guiding players to these dungeons. This series of quests rewards players with 6 Frost Emblems, which almost every character should complete. New players must clear the dungeons in the order of Soulforge, Saronite Mines, and Hall of Reflection to complete the quests; otherwise, they will not unlock access to the latter two dungeons. The normal difficulty of the New Three Dungeons drops equipment of item level 219, while the heroic difficulty drops equipment of item level 232. Although the 232 item level was not very appealing in P3, similar to the Trial of the Champion, the two DPS trinkets dropped in the New Three Dungeons are still notable.
The Scorpion’s Sting dropped by the second boss in the heroic Soulforge was originally an enhanced version of the Thunderstone. However, due to the Lich King Classic increasing the Thunderstone’s item level from 226 to 239, the Scorpion’s Sting became the youthful version of the Thunderstone. Even so, considering its low acquisition difficulty, the Scorpion’s Sting is still suitable for players in the NAXX phase.
The Frozen Crystal dropped by the third boss in the heroic Saronite Mines has a very unique effect. It is the only spellcaster trinket at level 80 that increases critical strike rating. Coincidentally, the core damage-over-time (DOT) skill of Affliction Warlocks, Corruption, benefits from critical strike snapshots. Therefore, The Frozen Crystal has become a black-tech trinket for Affliction Warlocks aiming for high critical strike Corruption. Although it cannot compete with the top-tier trinkets from ICC, it is considered a must-have for players still in the NAXX phase.
In heroic difficulty, the New Three Dungeons’ trash mobs have a small chance to drop a quest item called the Broken Sword Hilt (tradeable). The Alliance and Horde versions do not share but reward the same item. The sword hilt is the best item dropped from the New Three Dungeons.
The sword hilt quest rewards the Sisters of Quel’Serrar sword, Quel’Delar, with item level 251 and a choice of one of four attributes. For classes that cannot wield swords, there are one-handed/two-handed maces with the same attributes as substitutes, covering all classes except for Protection Paladins and Protection Warriors. An item level of 251 has already reached the item level of 10-man normal Icecrown Citadel drops. For players still using weapons of item levels 232-245, this is truly an upgrade. I predict that after the reopening of P4, the script army from the studios will definitely use the New Three Dungeons as their main farming ground.
