Three Issues in Functional Safety of Embedded System

Functional safety is the basic requirement of modern industrial products. This paper discusses three related topics:
The first is that the functional safety demand of automobile is probably higher than that of airplane. This point may affect the attention degree about this job.
The second is that two advanced CPU chips are analyzed to see how they satisfy the demands of functional safety. The limitations of these two chips are discussed.
The third is that the key issue in functional safety analysis is defining the safety state, so that the safety failure and danger failure are clearly defined. Then, the safety failure rate and safety integrity level can be determined.
