After entering the PCB industry, we often encounter two very similar concepts: PCB and PCBA. So, what are the differences between PCB and PCBA? Let’s learn together with Shenlian Circuit Board Factory!
1. About PCB
PCB stands for Printed Circuit Board, which is an important electronic component in the electronics industry. It serves as the support for electronic components and the carrier for electrical connections of electronic components. The PCBs from circuit board manufacturers are widely used in the production of electronic products, with the following characteristics:
1. High wiring density, small size, lightweight, conducive to miniaturization of electronic devices.
2. Reduces wiring and assembly errors, saving maintenance, debugging, and inspection time for equipment.
3. Facilitates mechanized and automated production, improving productivity and lowering the cost of electronic devices.
4. Standardization in design, which is conducive to interchangeability.
2. About PCBA
PCBA refers to the entire process after SMT placement on the PCB bare board, followed by DIP insertion.
SMT placement mainly utilizes placement machines to attach small components onto the PCB.
DIP, which stands for “Dual In-line Package,” involves inserting components onto the PCB. This method is used for larger components that are not suitable for surface mount technology.
Note: SMT and DIP are both methods of integrating components onto a PCB. The main difference is that SMT does not require drilling holes in the PCB, while DIP requires the component’s pins to be inserted into pre-drilled holes.
In summary: PCBA generally refers to a processing flow and can be understood as a finished circuit board, meaning that all processes on the PCB must be completed for it to be considered PCBA. In contrast, the PCB from circuit board manufacturers refers to an empty printed circuit board without components. Overall, PCBA is the finished board; PCB is the bare board.
That’s the difference between PCB and PCBA.
