Accelerating Innovation and Reducing Costs: The Next Step for IT Virtualization?

Under the wave of digital transformation, technology is evolving towards a direction that favors rapid business iteration. According to the latest annual “China Developer Survey Report,” nearly half of the companies (43%) have completed their microservices and containerization transformations. However, when it comes to the challenges of using and deploying containers, 45% of developers believe that complexity is the main issue, followed by a lack of relevant training.

In the field of infrastructure technology, mature virtualization technology still far exceeds container technology in terms of maturity and technical penetration. For developers, both containers and mature virtualization have their strengths, and some mature steady-state application systems are even more reliant on traditional virtual machines for compatibility. How should the two be chosen, or rather, how can they be balanced?

Red Hat has officially launched a unified management platform for container virtualization – OpenShift Virtualization, which unifies the scheduling, management, and delivery of both virtualization and container applications on a single platform. OpenShift Virtualization is an enterprise-level KubeVirt environment that utilizes mature KVM technology at the base level to schedule, run, and manage VMs within Kubernetes containers, thus achieving unified management and orchestration of traditional VMs and innovative containers by Kubernetes. From a technical direction and application scope, KubeVirt has already gained recognition from many users.

IT technology is constantly advancing; a technology evolves from inception to maturity and eventually gets replaced by newer technologies. This is a pattern of IT development and also the charm of the IT industry. To accelerate innovation while reducing costs and increasing efficiency, will the next step for IT virtualization be traditional virtualization or cloud-native virtualization?
