Another year has passed, and the world internet has once again entered “Wuzhen Time.” From December 3 to 5, the Fourth World Internet Conference was held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang.
This conference, themed “Developing the Digital Economy, Promoting Open Sharing – Building a Community of Shared Future in Cyberspace Together,” set up 20 sub-forums covering cutting-edge issues such as digital economy, frontier technology, internet and society, cyberspace governance, and communication cooperation.

Jack Ma: Robots Will Replace Most Mechanical Jobs
New technology does not lead to unemployment; rather, it allows people to engage in more valuable tasks, to innovate instead of repeating themselves, and to evolve their work.
Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba, believes that instead of worrying about technology taking away jobs, we should embrace technology to solve new problems. Humans possess unique creativity, so we must have confidence that machines cannot surpass humans.
Jack Ma stated that humanity can only welcome the new era and challenges by becoming a “community of shared destiny” and building it together.
Humans face a series of common problems, and the global industrial chain will undergo a complete transformation; it will not be about containers, but about small parcel express delivery; it will not be “Made In China” or “Made In America,” but “Made In Internet”; it will not be B2C, but C2B.
Jack Ma emphasized that more importantly, in the next 30 years, manufacturing will no longer be the engine driving employment; the future of manufacturing will be service-oriented, and future services must also be a new type of manufacturing.
Because machines will replace most mechanical jobs, machine learning and artificial intelligence will certainly lead to robots replacing many jobs, while humans will engage in more creative, innovative, and experiential work, making the service industry the main source of future employment.
Pony Ma: Chinese Companies Need to Become Drivers and Contributors of New Technology
Pony Ma, Chairman and CEO of Tencent, stated that Tencent aims to become a technology and cultural company based on the internet, with innovation being the key.
In the past, Chinese companies mainly played the role of followers of new technology, but today we need to become drivers and contributors of new technology, collaborating with global partners for co-development.
Pony Ma said, “We will open the latest technology to enterprises through Tencent Cloud; promote the development of the cultural and creative industry through the content open platform. In the future, more technology and cultural products will reach the world through the digital Silk Road.”
Robin Li: The Internet’s Demographic Dividend is Gone, but There is Still a Technological Dividend
Robin Li, Chairman and CEO of Baidu, provided a set of data during his speech:
In the past four years, the growth rate of internet users in China has been slower than the growth rate of China’s GDP, indicating that the internet’s demographic dividend is gone.
Although the demographic dividend has ended, Robin Li believes that the increasing number of internet users, online time, and the volume of information online are continuously driving the rapid development of the internet industry, promoting the advancement of artificial intelligence technology.
Therefore, “Although the demographic dividend is gone, there is still a technological dividend, and technological innovation represented by artificial intelligence will continuously drive the development of the digital economy.”
Robin Li believes that the driving force for the future development of the digital economy is artificial intelligence, which has a significant characteristic compared to past internet technologies: the ability for vertical integration.
He cited Baidu’s Apollo platform as an example; based on autonomous driving technology, Apollo allows different companies in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, even from different industries, to participate, benefiting many fields. Based on this, Robin Li believes that the development of artificial intelligence technology will promote continuous progress in technology and society.

The internet industry is thriving; where will the next opportunity be? Zhang Chaoyang, Chairman of Sohu, stated:
China’s biggest characteristic is its large population and many internet users. To succeed in China, one must engage in the consumer internet, focusing on businesses aimed at end users, entertainment, leisure, communication, and information distribution, with knowledge being the most important area.
In the internet era, future society will see knowledge becoming more precise, with finer granularity; everyone will be smarter, communication efficiency will be high, and modern life will truly explode in magnitude.
Shen Nanpeng: The Closure Phenomenon in the Shared Bicycle Sector is Very Positive
Recently, there have been many negative reports about the sharing economy, with some even claiming that the sharing economy is the biggest lie of the 21st century, and that it is a false proposition.
As an investor, Shen Nanpeng, Global Executive Partner of Sequoia Capital, also shared his views in an interview.
The sharing economy may not succeed in all fields, as many areas do not reach economic scale.

XU Zhi Jun, rotating CEO of Huawei, revealed that Huawei will launch a complete set of 5G network equipment solutions for large-scale commercial use in 2018, supporting global operators in deploying 5G networks; in 2019, Huawei will launch 5G-supported Kirin chips and smartphones.
5G can greatly enhance consumers’ mobile internet experience; for example, with 5G technology, downloading a 6GB HD movie can be completed in less than 2 seconds. Additionally, 5G can support connections of up to 100 billion devices and provide industrial-grade reliability and real-time performance, making it a key foundation for the successful implementation of Industry 4.0 and China Manufacturing 2025 strategies.
XU Zhi Jun stated that Huawei expects 5G to become a universal wireless technology, and in the future society, 5G will be everywhere, enabling all areas requiring wireless connectivity to be realized through 5G.
