Unlocking the Future with Security: Automotive Digital Key Practices

When massive devices are interconnected, “security” becomes a basic requirement.Arm launched the Platform Security Architecture PSA (Platform Security Architecture) to establish a complete set of basic guidelines for the entire ecosystem to address IoT security issues while reducing development costs, time, and risks.

Silver Base Security collaborates with various ecosystem partners to lay a trustworthy foundation for the Internet of Everything. Security runs through the entire value chain and covers all connected devices, providing major enterprises with more accurate user insights and creating greater business value.

On July 9, 2019, the Arm PSA Security Architecture Technical Seminar was grandly held in Beijing, with major partners from testing laboratories, certified chips, modules, solutions, cloud services, etc. arriving on site to jointly showcase PSA’s processes and achievements from threat modeling and security analysis, hardware and firmware architectural specifications design, implementation of security systems to PSA security testing and certification projects, and share successful use cases to help developers understand how PSA will address security issues in different industries and make it easier to build secure applications.

Andy Qiu, Vice President of Silver Base Security, delivered a keynote presentation on “Automotive Digital Key Practices”. The three major sections comprehensively analyze the automotive digital key:

1.What is an automotive digital key?

Traditional physical key—physical key + digital key—digital key + personal ID” represents the evolution of digital keys. Currently, the mobility method is in the second stage, with continuously increasing functions and enriching application scenarios, including car-sharing, key sharing, delivery to the trunk, personal charging station recognition, etc. Of course, Silver Base Security has provided digital key solutions for more than 10 OEMs’ mass-produced models, and Silver Base digital keys are among the first products to obtain ARM PSA certification, also currently the only certified automotive industry solution.

2.The security challenges of automotive digital keys

“Security” runs through the entire lifecycle of digital keys. There are many security challenges for digital keys, such as Bluetooth security, online and offline, the security of key management platforms, protection of keys on mobile devices, and the balance between user experience and security. To address threats and impacts, Silver Base Security has established a comprehensive system, covering business processes, business models, threat modeling, threat analysis, and security mechanisms.

3.Thoughts and sharing on IoT security

Finally, we discussed related issues of “how to build a security system” (application security and basic security), which can leverage ARM PSA certified products and security components to build foundational security capabilities from Chip to Cloud. Application developers or solution providers can focus on the design architecture and engineering implementation of business security. It can be said that the PSA security architecture system is like the foundation of a new building; once solidified, applications can quickly and safely rise from the ground.
