Background

With the rapid development of technology and the acceleration of globalization, the status of scientific education in secondary education has become increasingly prominent. Currently, the society’s requirements for students’ scientific literacy and innovative abilities are constantly increasing, and the traditional scientific education model is increasingly unable to meet this demand. Therefore, exploring and practicing new scientific education models has become an important direction for current secondary education reform.

Thoughts

The school deeply realizes that scientific education is not only the transmission of knowledge but also the cultivation of students’ scientific literacy, innovative thinking, and practical ability. Therefore, the school has decided to focus on artificial intelligence robotics education, building a complete scientific education system, innovating the scientific education model, stimulating students’ interest in science, and enhancing their scientific literacy and innovative capabilities.

Specific Practices

The artificial intelligence robotics activities at Nanyang No. 13 Complete School are held every Thursday afternoon during the 4th and 5th periods in the school’s fifth-floor robotics classroom. There are 16 group members divided into two groups, each with 8 members, supervised by 1 teacher, and each group holds one club class weekly; primarily using the Enjoy-AI robot kit as activity equipment, targeted training is conducted based on the annual competition projects to develop students’ scratch programming skills, hands-on building abilities, and teamwork skills.

1. Activity Equipment: Whale AI Module9

2. Group Division: Two people per team, one focuses on computer programming to control the robot; the other student focuses on hands-on building, collaborating to complete tasks, which not only cultivates students’ teamwork abilities but also enhances their communication and coordination skills.

3. Training Time: Every Thursday during the 4th and 5th periods of the club class.

4. Selection Format: Before the official competition registration, a simulated selection competition is held, following the official competition rules to select the teams with the highest scores to participate in the competition.

Main Achievements

1. Knowledge Growth: This is a comprehensive activity, and completing tasks requires students to have good programming skills, as well as knowledge in engineering, electromechanics, physics, mechanics, architecture, digital power, and other related fields;

2. Skills Development: In this process, students can not only develop logical thinking skills, keen observation, and strong adaptability but also cultivate perseverance when facing setbacks.

3. Honor Earned: Since the introduction of artificial intelligence robotics education, students have gained a lot, with many members winning awards in robotics competitions every year. In April 2023, they participated in the 22nd Henan Provincial Youth Robotics Competition, winning 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes; in June 2023, they participated in the 24th Henan Provincial Student Information Literacy Improvement Practical Activity, winning 2 second prizes and 4 third prizes; in January 2024, they participated in the first Nanyang City Primary and Secondary School Artificial Intelligence Competition, winning 4 first prizes and 2 second prizes.
