“Every whistle / an unspoken love”

Whistling Vases

This set of vases was collaboratively created by artists Clara Holt, Chiara Zoppei, and Mirko Marcolin. One of them crafted the vases from red clay on a pottery wheel, while another primarily creates sound-producing sculptures. These three vases also function as whistles: blowing into the mouth of the vase produces a whistle sound that emanates from the eyes of the sculptural face. The carving and main visual were completed by Clara Holt.

Clara Holt was born in 1987 and grew up in a small seaside town in central Italy called Pescara. She primarily employs etching techniques, applying a layer of colored glaze on hard clay, then scraping away parts of the glaze to create contrasting images, patterns, and textures that reveal the natural color of the underlying clay. She has always been passionate about classical literature, Greek epics, mythology, and surrealism, which guide her personalized interpretations of her subjects and themes.
