On the morning of September 11, the Shandong Provincial Government’s Information Office held a series of on-site press conferences titled “Shandong Good Brands on the Industrial Chain” at the Yantai Oriental Aerospace Port Satellite Data Industrial Park, focusing on the theme “Creating New Business Formats”. Ding Sheng, General Manager of Shanghe Aerospace, introduced the IoT constellation that the company is developing.
The so-called satellite IoT constellation can be simply understood as “building a global network in space”. This network can overcome the limitations of terrestrial network coverage, enabling interconnectivity and information exchange between objects and between people and objects globally, at any time and in any weather. Various devices—such as trucks, ships, drones, and monitoring sensors—can “communicate” and “transmit data” from anywhere.
Ding Sheng introduced that Shanghe Aerospace was established in 2020 and is committed to becoming a global leader in satellite communication operations. The company is constructing and operating a global low-Earth orbit satellite IoT constellation—Jili Constellation—by deploying 72 satellites in an orbit approximately 600 km above the ground, achieving global coverage and providing commercial satellite IoT communication services to users.
In terms of Jili Constellation operations, the focus is on the needs of industry users in sectors such as intelligent connected vehicles, marine fisheries, construction machinery, low-altitude travel, emergency communications, transportation logistics, public facilities, energy, water conservancy, agriculture, forestry, and animal husbandry, providing high-reliability, diversified, and cost-effective satellite data communication services and overall solutions. “Through the construction of the Jili Constellation, we are building an integrated digital ecological network of ‘air, land, sea’, serving national strategies, promoting the commercialization upgrade of China’s satellite industry chain, and the commercial application of Chinese aerospace technology,” Ding Sheng said.
In today’s era of global digital trade, a globally covered information network is becoming the foundation for the Internet of Everything and intelligent services. Ding Sheng stated that as a “pioneer” in China’s commercial aerospace sector, Shanghe Aerospace is planning to establish the global satellite constellation business headquarters, constellation measurement and control center, smart logistics and smart ocean application base, AI data operation center, and other service systems in Qingdao, providing global satellite IoT communication and data application services, and promoting the large-scale commercialization of Chinese aerospace technology.
