When it comes to smart connected vehicles, perhaps not many people are familiar with the term, but when it comes to “Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X)”, more people have heard of it. So why do we now say “smart connected vehicles” instead of “V2X”? What is the relationship and difference between V2X and smart connected vehicles?
is a large system network based on in-vehicle networks, inter-vehicle networks, and vehicle-mounted mobile internet, which conducts wireless communication and information exchange between vehicles and X (X: vehicles, roads, pedestrians, and the internet) according to agreed communication protocols and data exchange standards. It enables integrated networks capable of achieving intelligent traffic management, intelligent dynamic information services, and intelligent vehicle control. In simpler terms, a vehicle is no longer an isolated individual but a member of an organization that interacts with other external entities.
From a theoretical perspective, the internet includes smart networks, internet vehicles are a new definition of vehicles empowered by intelligent operating systems, and smart connected vehicles refer to vehicles that have a second engine provided by intelligent operating systems, allowing them to operate on both roads and the internet simultaneously. The intelligent operating system integrates from the bottom layer into the entire vehicle, enabling data to interact in the cloud, becoming a crucial driving force for the vehicle.
What we now refer to as smart connected vehicles consists of two parts: one part is smart vehicles, and the other part is connected vehicles, while V2X can only be seen as a part of it. The future trend is not only to connect vehicles with the outside world but also to trend towards intelligence, which includes the ongoing development of “autonomous driving”. V2X is just a transitional stage in this process. Therefore, we now refer to them as smart connected vehicles instead of just V2X.

On June 12, the China Smart Connected Vehicle Industry Innovation Alliance was officially established, with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology serving as the guiding unit of the alliance.
The Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Miao Wei, pointed out that we must seize this significant historical opportunity, provide resources from the perspective of national strategy, increase efforts, and accelerate the promotion of smart connected vehicles. I believe that in the near future, when a driverless car suddenly passes by you, don’t think you’re watching a sci-fi movie!
