Fault injection testing is an important means to verify the protection functions and torque safety of the drive motor system. The China Automotive Technology and Research Center’s New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Base has actively laid out and established the country’s first third-party testing institution power-level motor simulator test bench, focusing on the industry concern of drive motor system safety testing. It has the capability for hardware-in-the-loop testing and fault diagnosis verification of motor electronic control, vehicle controller, DC/DC, and OBC.
The testing capabilities cover standards: T/CSAE 263-2022 “Fault Injection Testing Specifications for Electric Vehicle Drive Motor System Controllers”, GB/T 18488.1-2015 “Electric Vehicle Drive Motor System Part 1: Technical Conditions”, GB/T 18488.2-2015 “Electric Vehicle Drive Motor System Part 2: Test Methods”, and others. It can conduct strategy calibration, fault diagnosis, fault injection, and functional safety verification projects for high-performance drive motor controllers.

Figure 1: Power-Level Motor Simulator Test Bench
The power-level motor simulator test bench has high-performance motor simulation and fault simulation capabilities, with a motor simulation power of 250kW, a speed of 30000r/min, and a phase current of 600Arms. It has modes for rotor fault, phase fault, motor fault, sensor fault, and others. In the future, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center’s New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Base will deepen its research in the safety technology field of new energy vehicle drive motor systems, promoting fault injection testing capabilities to cover larger power levels and three-electric system ranges, achieving laboratory bench and vehicle-level testing verification, and providing more scientific and comprehensive testing service solutions for enterprises.
