Key Laboratory of 3D Printing Technology and Equipment in Zhejiang Province

Laboratory Introduction

Key Laboratory of 3D Printing Technology and Equipment in Zhejiang Province

The Key Laboratory of 3D Printing Technology and Equipment in Zhejiang Province was officially established in August 2014. Currently, a dedicated 3D printing laboratory of 3000 square meters has been built at Zhejiang University, Zijingang Campus. The laboratory relies on the existing advantages and hardware foundation of the national key discipline of Mechanical Engineering at Zhejiang University, focusing on research in 3D printing technology and equipment development. It emphasizes the construction of experimental platforms in four R&D directions: 3D printing of metal forming, biomedical 3D printing, soft matter 3D printing, and precision control and inspection of 3D printing, achieving a leading level among similar laboratories both domestically and internationally.

Research Directions

1

Precision Inspection and Control of 3D Printing: This includes small spot size and adaptive technology; high-speed predictive interpolation technology for 3D printing; precision control technology for 3D printed products; path optimization technology based on the motion characteristics of 3D printer axes; layered slicing systems for 3D printing; intelligent generation systems for 3D printing; integrated design and simulation technology for shape-structure-performance in 3D printing; and quality control technology for 3D printing based on energy-optimized distribution.

2

3D Printing of Metal Forming: 3D printing equipment based on Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology; automatic generation technology for metal sintering supports; 3D printing technology for new energy manufacturing; adaptive layering technology for 3D printing; and laser-based texture manufacturing processes and mechanisms.

3

Biomedical 3D Printing: 3D printing processes and equipment for implantable artificial bones; manufacturing processes and equipment for nerve conduit printing; 3D printing for surgical training simulators; 3D printing processes and equipment for organ-on-a-chip; and 3D printing technology for tissue repair in vocal cords and skin.

4

Soft Matter 3D Printing: Forming mechanisms and 3D printing technology and equipment for gel and biodegradable polymer materials; personalized flexible prosthesis 3D printing; 3D printing processes and equipment for microfluidic chips; 3D printing processes and equipment for chocolate; 3D printing processes and equipment for controlled-release drugs; and 3D printing for targeted drug manufacturing.
