In the high-standard farmland demonstration area of Beiyang Village, sensors distributed throughout the fields act like sensitive “nerve endings,” continuously monitoring key data such as soil moisture, root water content, field illumination, and air humidity 24 hours a day. This real-time information is transmitted wirelessly to the agricultural data center, providing a scientific basis for agricultural technicians to accurately assess drought conditions and formulate irrigation plans. To address the issue of insufficient soil moisture, technicians guide farmers to use smart irrigation systems for precise water replenishment, supplemented by tillage and moisture retention measures to effectively reduce water evaporation and ensure the needs of corn roots.

Yang Ruqin, a grower in the Beiyang Village demonstration area, said: “Now I can check soil moisture on my phone, and experts provide online guidance for irrigation. Previously, it took over 50 cubic meters of water to irrigate an acre, but now about 30 cubic meters is sufficient, saving nearly 40% of water.”

To prevent the risks of pests and early plant aging caused by drought, our county has established an “intelligent monitoring + rapid response” prevention and control system. High-definition cameras capture real-time changes in leaf color and growth status, and combined with temperature, humidity, and soil nutrient data, the intelligent recognition system can accurately warn of pests such as red spiders and aphids, as well as issues like leaf yellowing and insufficient grain filling. Once abnormalities are detected, agricultural technicians quickly develop plans to guide farmers in scientifically applying pesticides and foliar fertilizers at the right time to ensure effective control.

A technician from Hebei Zhongrenxin Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. stated: “IoT technology has enabled us to transition from ‘farming by observing the weather’ to ‘farming with knowledge of the weather.’ By predicting the chain risks of drought through big data, we can implement measures such as water replenishment, fertilization, and pest control in advance, providing a technological safety net for corn growth.”

Currently, our county has formed more than 10 agricultural technology service teams, utilizing IoT monitoring data to provide targeted guidance. Technicians go deep into the fields to assist farmers in repairing irrigation facilities, optimizing watering frequency, and applying drought-resistant foliar fertilizers, while adjusting management measures based on moisture differences, comprehensively enhancing the drought resistance of corn. As of now, the overall growth of summer corn in the county is stable, laying a solid foundation for a bountiful autumn harvest.
