Industrial Applications of the Tactile Intelligence RK3506 Core Board: Open Source Harmony + Star Flash (Part 1)

The Tactile Intelligence RK3506 core board/Star Flash development board has achieved a significant breakthrough, being the first to complete the adaptation of the open-source Harmony OpenHarmony 5.1 L1 (small system), while also supporting Hisilicon Star Flash wireless communication (Star Flash + WiFi + Bluetooth).

This technological achievement marks Tactile Intelligence’s realization of 100% domestically produced software and hardware for the RK3506 core board, launching the “Star Flash + Open Source Harmony OpenHarmony” hardcore solution.

Tactile Intelligence also takes this opportunity to introduce the types of the open-source Harmony OpenHarmony system and its application cases.

Types of Open Source Harmony OpenHarmony System

Open Source Harmony is a full-scenario open-source distributed operating system designed with a component-based architecture, supporting the operation of system components on devices with RAM resources ranging from 128KiB to xGiB. Device developers can freely choose system components for integration based on the target hardware capabilities.To ensure ease of integration on different hardware, OpenHarmony currently defines three basic system types. Device developers can complete the configuration of required components by selecting a basic system type, thus enabling the development of their minimal system. The reference definitions for these three basic system types are as follows:

  • Lightweight System (mini system), referred to as L0 level

This is aimed at MCU-class processors, such as Arm Cortex-M and RISC-V 32-bit devices, with extremely limited hardware resources. The minimum memory supported is 128KiB, providing various lightweight network protocols, a lightweight graphics framework, and rich IoT bus read/write components. Supported products include connection modules, sensor devices, and wearable devices in the smart home field.

  • Small System (small system), referred to as L1 level

This is aimed at application processors, such as Arm Cortex-A devices, with a minimum memory of 1MiB. It can provide higher security capabilities, standard graphics frameworks, and multimedia capabilities for video encoding and decoding.   • Standard System (standard system), referred to as L2 level

This is aimed at application processors, such as Arm Cortex-A devices, with a minimum memory of 128MiB.
