When a set-top box shows module errors, the first step is to analyze the causes of the failure and then check the device.
Module voltage, the connection between the positioning module and the mainboard can fail, so both need to be checked. Below, Chao Ge will explain the repair methods for module error 1 and module error 2.
Module Error 1

Cause Analysis:
The positioning module has abnormal contact with the mainboard, or the power board/positioning module/mainboard may be damaged, causing the set-top box to fail to detect the positioning module.

Repair
Methods
1. Check if the 4V power supply for the module is normal; currently, the voltage for the module is generally around 4.2V. If the power voltage is around 4.2V, it is recommended to slightly lower the voltage to reduce the risk of damaging the module.
2. Check for any cold solder joints on the module, and re-solder the pins on both sides, because the module is in a module form, there may be abnormal surface mount issues.
3. If the above methods do not work, the only option left is to replace the module.
4. When replacing the module, be sure to note:
-
If it is an IMEI number module, follow these two methods:
a. First, replace the device, then replace the module (Note: the module used must be an old module of the corresponding version).
b. If you do not want to replace it, then after replacing the module, you need to re-flash the original old module’s IMEI number onto the new module.
-
If it is an L code module, follow these methods:
a. Do not replace the device; after replacing the module, you need to re-flash the original old module’s L code onto the new module (this is impractical and cannot be done at the moment).
b. Replace the device, and replace it with a new L code module (it must be a new version, otherwise it will trigger a module upgrade), report the data to the manufacturer, and update the relevant data through the repair channel. It is recommended to return the machine for repair after the L code module fails, as it is difficult for individuals to handle.
Reminder: Repairing module error 1 requires someone knowledgeable in circuits to operate. If you are not familiar with the operation, please return it for repair to avoid unnecessary losses.
Module Error 2

Cause Analysis:
Module error 2 indicates a signature verification failure, which simply means that the seed information is incorrectly embedded or lost, and the positioning module does not match the mainboard.

Methods
New machine repair: If it is a new machine, you can use a module repair card (white card) for repairs, or replace it with a new E2PROM. During the process, you will see a prompt saying “module preparation successful,” and after pressing confirm on the remote, wait for the yellow OSD box of the base station information to pop up or the installation interface to appear, which basically confirms that the embedding of the seed was successful.
If it is a customer’s returned machine, be careful: positioning machine (no need to replace the device);
a. You can use the module repair card to repair, just wait for the “module preparation successful” prompt;
b. You can also replace the new E2PROM, but remember to reboot. Note: The seed must be embedded using a blank card or test card; a card that is “activated” will not trigger the embedding process.
Reminder: Repairing module error 2 requires someone knowledgeable in circuits to operate. If you are not familiar with the operation, please return it for repair to avoid unnecessary losses.
