1. STMicroelectronics’ New Generation Active Fuse Driver – L9965P

To briefly introduce the background of fuse products: traditional fuses cannot achieve precise control through software and cannot accurately determine the timing of fuse operation based on the type of fault. To address these challenges, fuse manufacturers have developed intelligent controllable Pyro-Fuse (active fuses), which have been widely adopted.

At the same time, the fierce competition in the range and charging efficiency of new energy vehicles has driven the application of higher capacity and higher voltage battery packs, which raises higher requirements for the safety of power battery management systems. However, traditional fuses and active fuse systems based on high and low side driving can no longer meet the increasingly stringent functional safety requirements.ST has launched the latest generation product, L9965P.

Application scenarios include:

  • BMS (Battery Management System): Cuts off the high-voltage battery during a collision to avoid hazards;

  • Battery pack overcurrent scenarios: When the battery pack experiences overcurrent or short circuit faults, it can cut off the discharge path to prevent irreversible damage to the battery pack and other electrical systems;

  • Vehicle collision scenarios: Can cut off the high-voltage circuit based on collision signals;

  • Electric drive systems: Can cut off two phases in a three-phase appliance during a fault to prevent disasters;

The product features of L9965P are as follows; in summary, it is a product with extremely high requirements for functional safety and reliability.

High Barrier Chips

This type of product is mature and mass-produced by ST and Bosch, and there have been reports of domestic developments aiming to match these products, though the progress is uncertain and the difficulty is considerable.

High functional safety, extremely high reliability requirements, and how to gain the trust of vehicle manufacturers/Tier 1 suppliers all create significant barriers. It remains to be seen when similar products can be developed domestically, which would mark a significant advancement for automotive power chips.

2. SGM Microelectronics Launches Programmable Delay Function for 36V Automotive Grade Power Voltage MonitorSGM880xQ

SGM880xQ is a high-performance voltage monitoring chip with a maximum voltage rating of 45V. This chip can monitor voltage rails up to 12V with a threshold accuracy of 0.7% (typical value). By using external resistors in a voltage divider circuit, it can further monitor voltage rails up to 36V .

This chip is suitable for monitoring the voltage status of 12V batteries to reset MCUs and other control chips, allowing the system to be informed in advance or to enter a safe state early.

Product highlights include:

  • Wide operating voltage range:1.2V/2.2V to 36V, maximum voltage rating 45V, suitable for 12V battery applications

  • Low static current:2.3uA/3uA (typ)

  • Monitoring voltage range:2.3V to 5V (0.1V/step), 5V to 12V (0.25V/step), with pulse suppression function

  • Monitoring threshold accuracy: ±0.7% (Ta=25℃), temperature coefficient:40ppm/

  • Programmable reset delay function for resetting MCUs and others

3. Lumissil Releases High Brightness 40*9 Matrix LED Driver Chip IS31FL3758

Lumissil has released a high brightness, high flexibility, and high reliability LED driver chip IS31FL3758. This chip supports a maximum of 40×9 matrix, driving up to 360 monochrome LED beads or 117 RGB LED beads. The chip supports 256 levels of PWM dimming for each LED and 3 groups of 256 levels of global current regulation, enabling fine brightness control. Target application markets include white goods display panels, LCD screen backlighting, gaming consoles, keyboards, etc.

Chip features include:

  • Flexible architecture:48 constant current sources (60mA) combined with external control of 2-9 PMOS can configure various combinations of lamp string matrix structures;

  • Delicate dimming:8bit PWM (maximum frequency 260kHz, maximum scanning frequency 28kHz) + 8bit DC (RGB)

  • IndicatesSPI or I2C dual communication interfaces;

  • Comprehensive protection features: over-temperature protection, over-current protection, under-voltage protection, open circuit/short circuit monitoring, etc.
