“Wave Pools”

Olaismo Series

“Wave Pools” is a series of “concept pools” completed by Diango Hernández over a decade (2015-2025). The entire series belongs to his broader creative context of “Olaismo” (Waveism) — using continuous, undulating curves as the basic grammar to dissolve the boundaries between architecture, painting, and sculpture, transforming pools into canvases that hold water, and turning canvases into swimmable memories.

Diango Hernández (Diango Hernández) was born in Cuba in 1970 and currently resides in both Germany and Cuba. His works are characterized by an abstract geometric language centered around “waves.” Growing up by the sea in Cuba, the wave line is the “horizon” in his memory; now living in Düsseldorf, Germany, he has completed his first physical pool on the hills of Tuscany, Italy. Several completed pools are available for swimming by reservation and also serve as a long-term display in a sculpture park. Every evening, the water surface reflects the sky and mountain shadows, and the wavy pool edges fragment the real scene, making the pool itself a “living painting” that changes with time.
