There is a British inventor named Dominic Wilcox, who is referred to by the British media as the “quirky” inventor of the modern era. Wilcox once held an event where he asked over 450 children to draw their invention designs and then collaborated with local manufacturers and renowned designers to create some of these inventions into physical products.

Take a look at these children’s designs; they might just outshine professional designers!

The liftolator (war avoider)

11-year-old Charlotte’s design is surprisingly related to the theme of “war”! When war breaks out, people can leave their houses and gardens behind and take a lift chair to a safe location. The glass dome is designed to recreate the impractical “invisible shield” from the design sketch.

Pringles Hook

11-year-old Georgia designed a gadget for chip lovers. When the chips are more than half gone, you have to tilt the can to get the rest, but with this hook, the problem is solved.

Ezy Slice Fryer (Instant fries)

11-year-old Isaac Dawson designed this potato gun, which uses pressure from an air gun to cut potatoes into strips (with interchangeable grid sizes) that drop directly into the fryer to start frying fries.

Super Fast Tennis Ball

10-year-old Kai Rowntree designed a tennis ball that can adjust speed and energy, but model maker Carl Gregg said it is just a concept model because a mini engine cannot be implanted inside the tennis ball.

Tooth-o-Matic

12-year-old Henry Hughes came up with the idea of storing toothpaste in the handle, so when brushing teeth, you just need to press a button, and the toothpaste will be squeezed onto the toothbrush. This design should be great for people who are pressed for time in the morning.

Flipping Rope

6-year-old Chloe Main said, “Flipping Rope is a flying jump rope. Each end of the rope has a propeller and a light. You can use it to jump rope, fly, or even jump and fly at the same time. The end device is powered by batteries, so you have to land before the power runs out. Kids can use this device to jump to other countries, and pilots looking for more fun can also use it.” Although impractical, it is quite interesting!

Glasswards

11-year-old Alex Dickens’ invention was inspired by his mother, who always seems to have a pair of eyes behind her, keeping an eye on what the kids are doing behind her back.

Life Band

9-year-old Danny invented this wristband to be worn while swimming. If the wearer is drowning, they just need to press a button, and the engine will inflate a balloon to help the wearer float to the surface. This wristband is also equipped with a sensor that instructs the engine to stop inflating once it detects that the balloon is full of air.

Self Waterer Plant Pot – SWPP

10-year-old Kaja’s idea. SWPP is an invention suitable for everyone, which can automatically water plants based on settings. It includes a water container, light source, electric pump, water sensor, and a microcontroller (Arduino). When the sensor detects that the soil is too dry, the microcontroller controls the pump to water the plants until the soil becomes moist again. With the settings, it can even service cacti, which only need watering once a year.
