Global leading embedded development tool supplier IAR has officially announced a partnership with China’s well-known MCU supplier Jihai Semiconductor. The latest version of IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm now fully supports the Jihai G32R501 series real-time control MCU. The G32R501 is the world’s first real-time control MCU based on the Arm® Cortex®-M52 dual-core architecture, supporting innovative features such as Arm Helium™ vector extension (M-profile Vector Extension, MVE) and Jihai’s self-developed Zidian mathematical instruction extension unit, making it widely applicable in high-end fields such as new energy photovoltaics, industrial automation, new energy vehicles, and commercial power supplies.
As a new generation processor independently developed by Arm China based on the Arm v8.1-M architecture, the Cortex-M52 has been optimized and upgraded for the Chinese market. It maintains easy migration from Cortex-M4F and Cortex-M33 while achieving a 2.7 times improvement in DSP performance and a 5.6 times improvement in ML performance, enabling higher levels of machine learning and digital signal processing capabilities. IAR, through its globally leading high-performance compiler and powerful debugging tools, helps Chinese developers efficiently and safely develop and deploy intelligent embedded systems based on the G32R501 real-time control MCU, accelerating local ecological innovation.
The Jihai G32R501 real-time control MCU adopts advanced 40nm eFlash technology, features a dual-core architecture with a main frequency of 250MHz, and includes single/double precision floating-point units. It supports Arm Helium™ technology and can be expanded through a custom data path CDE interface to include Jihai’s self-developed Zidian mathematical instruction extension unit, significantly reducing mathematical computation time and lowering CPU access latency, thereby enhancing the overall real-time performance and intelligence of the system.
For complex real-time control application requirements, the G32R501 integrates a rich set of high-performance sensing and control peripherals along with a flexible peripheral interconnection system, including high-precision PWM with 150ps resolution, flexible programmable logic units, and a 12-bit ADC with a sampling rate of 3.45MSPS, enhancing system performance and application adaptability to support the complex control needs of various innovative applications. Additionally, the G32R501 supports multiple safety enhancement features such as code security protection and lost clock detection circuits, complying with IEC 61508 SIL2 functional safety certification and AEC-Q100 Grade 1 automotive reliability certification standards, and supports a working temperature range of -40℃ to 125℃, efficiently meeting the performance requirements for high-performance, high-integration, high-safety, and high-reliability chips in the mid-to-high-end application market.
IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm, widely adopted by global embedded developers, is renowned for its excellent compilation optimization, debugging, code analysis, and reliability. In the face of the G32R501, the world’s first Cortex-M52 based MCU, IAR once again demonstrates its leading technological advantages, providing developers with an efficient and stable development experience. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm employs industry-leading compilation optimization technology to enhance CPU performance, supports the Helium vector extension (M-profile Vector Extension, MVE) of Cortex-M52, significantly improving DSP and AI/ML task processing capabilities, while also supporting custom data path extensions (Custom Datapath Extension, CDE) in conjunction with Jihai’s self-developed Zidian mathematical instruction extension unit, thereby enhancing the overall real-time performance and intelligence of the system. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm features powerful debugging capabilities, supporting a variety of breakpoint types, and multi-core debugging supports SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing) and AMP (Asymmetric Multi-Processing), helping users debug efficiently and improve development efficiency.
Furthermore, IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm includes static code analysis tool C-STAT and dynamic code analysis tool C-RUN, helping developers identify potential issues in the code early in the development process, thereby improving code quality. IAR’s build tools support automated build processes, which can be deployed on Windows/Linux servers for automated CI/CD development flows, enhancing R&D efficiency. In terms of functional safety, IAR provides certified functional safety versions to help users accelerate the development and certification of functional safety projects.
